Im STILL getting Sword and Shield
"Call Twilight Sparkle... shit's about to get magical!"
I know the last few days for Pokemon fans has been a VERY rough and frustrating one.
Not all the mons we have will be usable in Sword and Shield. And, apparently, this isn't changing.
Dynamax is here to stay and Mega and Z Moves are not going to be in the game.
I understand people's frustration at all of this, but I, in good faith, condone the inexcusable behavior they have exhibited over these last few days. Attacking, belittling, and just generally being toxic towards ANYONE who is trying to make the best of this situation. It also seems a lot of people are making burner accounts or new accounts in general on Twitter for the SOLE PURPOSE of talking shit.
However, these events will not deter me. I still plan on getting Pokemon Sword and fully enjoying it to my heart's content. I plan on doing Max Raids with friends and randos, doing battles online (maybe), trading, and breeding for days on end.
So, yes, I WILL STILL get the games and I will be DAMNED if some dick tries to bring me down for being excited.

I have a lot of mons that are my faves that prolly won't be in the Galar dex. Does that suck? Yeah. Will it be that way forever? No. I'll find new faves for gen 8 and prolly I'll be able to use those older mons again at another time.
"And we will, of course, take great care to preserve the value that each of these Pokemon have to their trainers."
"With so many different parts of this Pokemon world, we wanted to make a single location where they could all come together, and use that to deliver a new experience that not only connects Pokemon with a variety of games..."
So they straight up lied. I don't blame people for being pissed.
They'll still be there (as well as the National Dex), but they'll be in reserve until the time comes when you CAN use them.
You're not losing ANYTHING, you STILL have all your pokemon you worked so hard to get still there.
Also people are acting suprised that Game Freak is taking out a fun thing or mechanic for a new game as if they've never done it before ahaha
Plus I need my precious sad lizard son.
Am I still super excited for the game and going to get the game on day one and play through the whole thing and have a damn good time? HELL YES!
The main games themselves.
I can't imagine the setbacks that would happen if GF delayed a main series game. They're in a very tough spot now. As the number of pokemon we get gets higher and higher, it's only going to be harder for them.
Would you rather wait 2 years for a game with full compatibility but almost no new pokemon?
Or a new game with a lot of new pokemon with compatibility that starts limited but changes over time?
Game Freak is hardly involved with the development of the TCG or even the overwhelming majority of the spin off games. Those are primarily developed by Creatures Inc, the third holder of the Pokemon license. They've only been responsible for the mainline games, Pokemon Quest, and were co-developers for Pokemon Dream Radar. Every other spin off and Pokemon related game has been by Creatures Inc or a third party developer like Spike Chunsoft for the Mystery Dungeon games.
I can't find much about who handles the anime other than that its just licensed by The Pokemon Company, which only leads me to believe Nintendo primarily handles it since Nintendo handles most of the franchising and licensing for the brand.
Meanwhile, Digimon struck gold with the Cyber Sleuth series and they decided to just include more digimon with each iteration, keeping an anime style with the 3d models and bringing them forward into the next game where they add more digimon and touch on the balancing.
If this keeps up, Digimon may make a resurgence like never before...
What do you do then? If I can't use a digimon I've loved since the start in the newer ones because it's not there, is that fair?
What'll they do then?
Someone also did a comparison and found the pikachu model in sword/shield is exactly the same as the one in x/y, meaning they are still able to transfer assets and still did so.
What I find more likely than their excuses is that the development of pokemon lets go ate up time and resources and when it came time for sword and shield, they were under staffed and the development dragged. It is also likely the framework of pokemon home and sword/shield is so stiff that updates are not easy to do that involve including animations and models, hence the problems.
I factor it under rushed development.
As for Digimon, they actually have a rather small pool of key digimon they keep in rotation regardless of the games, it's that each game gives the option to add more obscure cult status digimon or ones associated with a current show or movie. Basically, they are safe because they only ever need to ensure about 15 digimon are in any specific game.
And seriously, 900+ pokemon in one game is getting ridiculous, the powerful pokemons are flooded by the ones of all the others gens. (My favorite pokemon games are the 2nd gen... 250 mon are good (and 2 regions <3)) Just, with all the gens, I guess a dex with 350-400 entries is enought.
The last games really casualised the licence (in ROSA, latios/latias is litteraly offered at the middle of the game?!!! >=( and USUL is one of the worst since you can only to go in the red dot to keep goin' in your adventure AND explorate! If you don't progress in the game, there is so many area you can't reach!!! And fucking dead fish eyes on the emotionless face of your character ><)
So I'm totally ok with their decision <3
Hell it's Pokemon, bitching about a system change that they'll ignore if old Pokemon games get remade on them or if they eventually allow for old mons to be ported over, sure isn't gonna stop the sale of the game. And the try hards who want to catch every Pokemon will buy it despite the bitching anyway just to catch the new Pokemon of the Gala region, so the opinions of roughly 60% of everyone crying and bitching is invalid anyway.
Is it a bummer that I won't be able to import certain Pokemon, especially for when I do monotypes and theme team playthroughs? Sure. But again, that's superfluous. Gamefreak have poured in a lot of work into Sword and Shield and I'm not going to ignore that over something that's petty at best and pointless at worst. Besides, I have a hunch that between SwSh, the inevitable Diamond and Pearl remakes and the third installment that we'll probably get (which almost always adds more to the Regional Dex anyway) we'll probably get at least 70% of the total National Dex (most of the cuts being legendaries, starters and the event/mythical Pokemon) anyway so this literally is a non-issue.
Besides, Gamefreak has stated that this was something that was going to happen eventually, so if it wasn't going to happen now, it would happen 3 years from now, so the salty people might as well suck it up because this is the new norm. And that doesn't have to be as bad as they're making it out to be. Go make new Pokemon friends and just enjoy what Game Freak does right in this new installment instead of throwing it all away over one flaw.
I might still consider getting Sword, the game itself still looks really good and they're apparently adding tons of new Pokemon, so I'd still like to see what it's got to offer. I just hope they'll reconsider the change and slowly adapt old Pokemon into it over time.
Also I'm too deep into team Scorbunny to want to withdraw my support at this point. Also the memes are pretty dank
Should probably organize them by gen and team comp.
I should breed a few more just in case some of them aren't in the Galar Dex.
As of right now, the non Galar mons are kind of warming the bench till they get called up for the next game.
...also... ...was that meant to be a joke?
FRLG banned all non Gen1 pokes until far postgame
BW started you with an exclusive dex
Japanese Stadium 1 had 42 pokes out of 151 based on most used in tournaments.
Things happened, things will happen. I am a pokefan and will still get Sword probably.
The Pokémon series became so huge and there are so many Pokémon and different types of improvements and ways to micro-manage your team, that it's maybe good they reduced things a bit. It can be too overwhelming for many players and it can influence the fun of the game in a negative way. Even if reduced it can still be a great game and I hope you will have tons of fun with it.
