It's a Lion King Weekend!

Hey the 25th anniversary of TLK is Monday so lets make it a LION KING WEEKEND!
Who is your favorite character? What is your favorite song? Do you remember seeing it in theatres? Did you have it on VHS?
I think Scar is so sexy! And I love the Timon costume in the parks. When he walks his tail goes BOINGBOINGBOING.
But I will always have a special connection with Rafiki.
"Be Prepared" really gets my blood pumping but "Hakuna Matata" is such a happy tune!
I did not see it in theatres until after it was out a while because I was working on a cruise ship in Summer 1994.
I have it on LASERDISC! The deluxe box set. Yeah, I was listening to directors' commentary long before DVD's became the popular home video format. I remember them saying that Rafiki's song (Asante Sana Squash Banana etc etc) is actually a African nursery rhyme/child's song. When the animators when to Africa to observe the animals, their tour guide was humming that song to himself while walking along and they thought "that's a neat song... We should put that in the movie" . Or so the story goes.
I will be posting LK pix all week with my new video on Monday.

My favorite character (s) in the movie is Simba and Scar.
It's really hard to choose a song from the movie, but if I have to choose two, it will be "Circle of Life" and "Be Prepared". Also, for my future wedding, I would like to have "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" by Elton John to play for the first dance. X3
I have seen the movie in theaters TWICE! Once when I was a little girl when it first came out; and the second time as an adult when they brought it back in theaters. :)
I use to own the VHS a very long time ago. Now I don't have the movie in any home video format. I will need to change that!
My favorite Lion King memory was when I was a little girl, I would sing "I Can't Wait To Be King" and rein act the part of Zazu pulling a piece of hair off Simba, in which I pulled my cousin's hair. I also use to own a talking Young Simba plush that I loved so dearly. Ahhh, good times.
This is the toy I was talking about. https://www.ebay.com/i/153427742906?chn=ps
Yeah I saw it in theaters and I remember that scene where Simba joins Timon and Pumbaa by downing a big bug there was a collective "Ewww!" from every kid in the room!
During "Can You Feel the Love Tonight", Simba and Nala are getting reaquainted and she licks his cheek. He looks at her in surprise and she give him a very suggestive look and I'm thinking "and what does that look say?"
I finally did see it in full while in Pre-K.
Favorite song from the film is probably either "Can't Wait to be King" or "Be Prepared".
While I never saw the movie in theaters (knowing that I wasn't born until 1996), I did see the show on Broadway if that counts.
I do have the movie on VHS, which was the first time I saw the movie. I even managed to get it autographed three years ago by Jim Cummings (the voice of Ed).

Nala is obviously the best <3 My newest lioness fursuit totally isn't heavily inspired by her or anything >.>
I don't remember if I saw it in theatres but I probably did, and probably owned it on VHS because I'm pretty sure everyone who was a kid in the 90s did.
I've recently started acquiring random TLK junk, one thing being the enormous VHS box set from the mid 90s with a bunch of prints inside, the cassette is still sealed as is the 2nd cassette which has some special features on it which they probably included on the DVD anyway. Also got the huge Art of the Lion King coffee table book which is rather neat.
As for songs, well, they're all good <3!
I'll also admit I'm a horrible furry and I never watched TLK2 and 1.5 until about 2 months ago. I enjoyed them, and then subsequently watched every single Lion Guard episode to date, and I can't wait for season 3 to come out
I was also shushed for making Star Wars quotes throughout the film, since they both are basically following the standard pattern of the epic as explained in The Hero with a Thousand Faces.
But even just seeing the commercials for it that included clips from the movie, I KNEW it would do a number on me.
And man did it ever. I nearly wore out the VHS tape I had of the movie.
My favorite characters are Timon, Mufasa and young Simba. I still bawl like a baby every time I watch through the scene where Simba finds Mufasa in the gorge after the stampede. Just thinking about it tears me up a little. That scene is raw enough on its own. But my father passed away when I was nine so I identify with poor Simba so much.
The Lion King has been the only movie in all my going on 46 years that could have me laughing while still having tears running down my face. That was due to the key bit of humor that was thrown in right after Mufasa's death.
Banzai falling in those thorns, then coming out all prickly. Still wanting to finish the job, and Shenzi saying "I ain't goin' in there! What, you want me comin' out lookin' like you, Cactus-Butt?"
Still crying and then laughing at the same time due to that. It was a brilliant move on the part of the writers. I think that if something really funny or uplifting hadn't happened soon after the stampede scene, the entire feel of the movie would have remained incredibly dark and tragic.
The opening song is my favorite. I get goosebumps when I hear it along with the opening animations. Hakuna Matata is a great song.
Years later at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood, I caught a performance of the Broadway show, with incredible costumes and sets. I loved how Timon was a puppet used by an actor in a green suit, looked almost like the Jolly Green Giant was following him all around.
At the next local meetup at the karaoke bar, I'm totally going to sing Be Prepared in fursuit.
And now, I leave you with this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3556003/
I guess I'll get the new version when it comes out too.. may as well, they got me hooked in all the way now :)
As for favorite characters, all the Scar statues and trinkets I have about would betray me there..
Never was much for the song and dance parts other than the dance moves offers opportunities to see paws!
Favourite songs:
TLK: Busa or the cut version of Can You Feel The Love Tonight with Simba and Nala ( https://youtu.be/t5fyGO2YczY )
SP: We Are One
TLK3: That's All I Need
Stage: They Live In You
TLG: Sisi Ni Sawa (We're The Same) or any song featuring the hyenas - they get the best music videos with their songs.
Kovu is probably my favourite character. He grew up to be one fine hunk of lion...
I'm looking forward to the CG remaster of the film, though I'm still cross that Ernie Sabella isn't voicing Pumbaa - he's been Pumbaa in practically everything the character's ever appeared in, and if they can get James Earl Jones back then they could've got Ernie back.
