Hello everyone!
Question: Would you say that you are creative?
And if so: Has it always been like this (or at least since you started your hobby / hobbies)?
Or did you... learn how to be creative?
Today's issue is about creativity and a phenomenon that I would assume many of you have encountered at some point:
Have you ever had the feeling, that your early works were somehow... Well, more creative than what you did later?
This seems to be a rather widespread phenomenon, especially amongst musicians.
When I listen to the pieces I wrote the first few years, I always find that there's something "special" in there. Something, that I have never been able to recreate after a certain point.
I have talked about this with different people over the years and there seems to be a very specific reason for this:
When we first get started and try to really create something on our own, our "youthful" naivety plays a very important role. We basically just do things and don't care too much about the rules.
The results are often quite amazing; at least for the artist; the creator. We are proud of our creation and the effort and emotion we put into it really shows.
Over time we learn more and more about the "rules" and also our technical skills improve.
We try to recreate these feelings that we were able to communicate through our first attempts, but for some reason we keep failing, even though we understand so much more about our art than back then.
There seems to be a risk there that at some point we get blinded and distracted by what we assume to be experience.
We learn how to create certain sounds, how to fill the listener with certain feelings and how to adapt styles and use patterns. And we shy away from things that didn't work out very well in the past.
And especially because of that, we often find it difficult to leave or comfort zone.
Can you relate to this? Are you stuck inside your comfort zone?
Or did you get stuck for a while and managed to find your way out?
Let us know about your experience with this. Any advice on how to "break the rules"?
Next, it is time for...

Editors Note
Hello, it's been a while since I spoke to you like this. Just stopping by to explain that there's a slight change to submission eligability for the adverts section.
Previously, it was decided that SoundCloud posts were not eligable as newsletter links. However, time has past and with the shakeup in the organisation team for the newsletter, it has been decided that SoundCloud links ARE eligable for inclusion in the newsletter for Single tracks only with download/buy links included for the time being. Once I get to grips further with if SoundCloud allows for bulk-album purchase and/or download, I'll start to look into expanding this idea further to include multi-track releases. Stay tuned.
