hey what's up fellow youtubers, it's ya boy fucksmyowngrandma79 and today i'm gonna be talking about the fact i can no longer decide what i wanna do. let's list them off because lists are cool. i want to:
- draw several pictures i have ideas for
- write several stories i have in mind
- make an rpg, a platformer, a fighting game, a dating sim, learn blender, unity, and get better with game maker
- learn to compose music
- practice animation
- draw several comics
"but pawn," you scream, digging into the earth to find the root of all evil. "why don't you buckle down and just do one thing at a time, you fucking slut?" well jennifer (this is your legal name now), that is good advice and you are correct to suggest such a method; however, fuck you. each thing on this list would prolly take months/years to learn/do, and while i do want to do these things, i feel like another solution would be to just trim the fat. the problem is, i'm not sure what to trim.
drawing makes me better at art, which i need if i want to make games.
writing helps me get better at story-telling, which i need if ever want a good script for a game.
learning blender would definitely be a good thing to have under my belt, since 3d modeling is such a big part of the game industry.
unity and game maker are also pretty big, and coding is probably the area i need the most work in. knowing how to program in 2 languages would be very handy.
music is nearly a necessity for most games, so if i learn to compose my own music, i won't have to put that responsibility on someone else.
animation means i can move the art assets i make for my game. obviously useful and not a skill i want rusting.
comics are the only area that don't really contribute, but even then, i have ideas that are scratching the inside of my head wanting to get out.
i know from a logical standpoint i should start doing one of these things instead of wringing my hands, but it's just a discombobulating experience. i think writing this journal has helped clear my head and given me some kind of plan of attack, though, so thanks for listening, jennifer. i hope you find the root of all evil

thank you Squirtle Satan
also I can help you with comics literally whenever, hit me up sometime and actually also hit me
Not that my input is decisive, but ... I think that you should start with general drawings, then move to comics/storyboarding, then use that to do animations B)
you are correct horse about all these things. i think for now i will. practice my usual art and try to do a bit of comic work on the side c:
You sound like you're in the same headspace that I was in when I was in my twenties. So I'm gonna give you advice that I would give to twenty-something Blake if time-travel were a thing. Back then I got interested in doing a whole bunch of stuff, such as:
- learning to play acoustic guitar
- learning to model and render in 3D
- drawing a regular web-comic
- drawing dailies
- learning python, html, c++, css, java, javascript, or mysql
All of the above have a few things in common:
I tried to achieve them by myself,
I didn't set myself an end goal of any kind (how long to draw dailies for, what grade of acoustic guitar playing to achieve, etc), and
I totally failed to achieve anything satisfying as a result.
So I'm gonna have to be a real Jennifer here and say yeah, pick one thing. Find someone to be your collaborator / creative support. Set a rigid, repeat rigid, end goal - this could be time spent or level of achievement, but I'd suggest setting an allowance of time as it's easy to keep track of (psst, get some free time tracking software like Toggl if it isn't easy for you to keep track of how you spend your time). Then just, and this is the tricky part, stick to it.
Treat it like a job, but a job that you're doing for yourself. You aren't getting paid for this job (it's an internship), but your reward is learning a new skill or creating something you're pleased with.
Good luck, and as always, love and butts-hugs xXx
I've been sticking to one thing for about five days now, and I already feel like I've learned a lot about it. I'll look into that Toggl thing too~
