Your opinion is needed! - EF25 preparations
6 years ago
Hello everyone!
I mentioned it before, but I strife to get a table at the Artist Alley of the Eurofurence Convention this year.
In case you don't know, the EF has two areas for artists to sell their stuff. One being the Dealer's Den, a closed area where the more prominent artists got their tables reserved and safe.
And for the artistic low-life like myself, there is the public area of the Artist Alley, where the tables are given at the convention itself on a first-come-first-served base.
So I am preparing my stuff for the table presently, and I wanted to ask everyone who reads this, what you would like to see at my table at the alley.
For example if I ever drew a picture of which you think it might make a nice print for example. Or anything else that comes to your mind really.
It doesn't matter if you are planning to attend the EF yourself or not, every opinion is important to me to get the pictures printed and prepared that people actually want to see.
A final note; as the Artist Alley is a public area all works have to be SFW.
I big thank you to everyone who helps me out with this and if you attend EF this year, you might see me there if things go as planned^^
Thanks for reading and have a wonderful and creative day!

And this one would be awesome, if it was SFW :P https://www.furaffinity.net/view/27143499/
I'd suggest also the pic you did for me, but it would be a very biased opinion xD. In general I think the best would be the art pieces with horizontal view and those atmospheric detailed backgrounds :). For other merchandise wallscrolls are awesome but it's rather expensive. Maybe stickers? Offering commissions at the conventions is awesome too, but you're more digital artist I assume :P.
I've never attended any big furry con and won't be at EF in nearest future, but wish you luck :D! My friend
Three of those you mentioned I indeed already printed, so I think that's a good start. Thank you for your feedback.
I also had considered your commission, the SFW version, because it's one of the three most popular pics here on FA.
I will think about the other pics you mentioned, thank you again.
Also the art your friend does is amazing, I follow her as well. I never had actually expected to be accepted into the dealer's den, and if I take your friend as an orientation, I will not make it in for some time to come, but I will certainly check out her table sometimes^^
Yeah she's very good, and quite popular as far as I can tell. I recommend to visit her and if so tell her I send you xD.
Awesome fantasy themes with very good art to it.
It has everything:
coloring
shading
awesome backgrounds
anatomy plus awesome character designs, also well drawn armor.
I don't know how much you know about Sci-Fi, but maybe some art which depict some more sci-fi stuff?
(althought I prefer fantasy)
I don't think I have any pic that matches the criteria you mentioned, but I will see if I can dig something up.
I actually did think about something scifi related, but sadly I don't have the time anymore to make new pics for the EF, but it's certainly something to explore in the future.
If I should actually sell something this year at the EF, I will try again next year and hopefully have something scifi then too.
Personally I also am more into fantasy, but I think it would be neat to have a bigger range of topics.
Thanks again for your feedback^^
For the sake of example, let's say I've never seen your work before and I see your table. You have an awesome, very talented style of digital media. I always want to view art and picture what it would look like if my own characters were in the subject's place. However, that can be very difficult to hold on to when LOTS of people are trying to do the same thing. So what I would suggest is have single subject-focused pieces within immediate sight, perhaps on a small stand that can be viewed at a distance if need be.
More complex/"crowded" pieces would do well flat on the table, for the viewers who're now invested in your art and managed to get a good look at your wares. This can also be in a porfolio/binder to flip through, a fun way for people to get "hands-on" and imagine actually holding their own commissions in their hands.
If you have the resources, might I suggest getting a portfolio specifically for WIPs and smaller projects? As much as I love seeing your main product, I can't help but also think of the pricing. Easily things can average to $200+. If I can see "cheaper" things, I'm much more inclined to come up with a plan how to work with a budget later on when I commission you. If I'm really invested in the idea, it'll easily evolve to much more expensive projects.
In all, be in a customer's shoes. It's easy to overwhelm them with everything going on. While lights and colors are eye-catching, you're easy to lose them if they can't focus what their possible future commission would look like from you. It's an investment, not a race. ^-^ I hope it helped.
PS: I'd list what prints would look good, but then I'd be linking your whole gallery. xD I'm terrible picking favorites.
Your input is giving me some ideas of how to set up the table, but my options are probably limited there, as it is a table at the artist alley only, but I do have some ideas of pics that could be more eyecatching I think.
I do like the idea for the portfolio as well and I think I will adapt this, also for the reason of organizing and showing what prints of which format are available.
For the pricing I have to be honest I don't quite follow what you mean. My plan at the moment was that the biggest prints I have (A3/29.7cm x 42cm) for maybe like 10€ or 15€ at the most. The most expensive things would be some playmats I had printed for 25 or 30,- probaly, sadly I can't go lower than that if I want to cover the expanses for their printing.
On the regards of WIP stuff I sadly don't have much to show that would be worth it.
Either way, thank you for you feedback, it helps a lot!
Let me try to rephrase it and brief it up a bit: I love seeing magnificent art and products, don't get me wrong. But in regards to finding someone to commission later down the line, it can be a bit intimidating if all I remember is "Oh man, I wonder how much THAT one cost." Now I'm not telling you to keep things cheap, no. You price however you wish, and I will support you 100%! I'm trying to express that seeing lower-tier items (sketches, past commissions with basic/minimal background, bust portraits, etc) encourages me there are options that I can afford now should I have a commission in mind.
Again, I am VERY sorry for the miscommunication! Overall, you're the one in charge of your table and you approach it like you would when you advertise your products on FA. I'll be rooting for ya!
(Also I realized I only spoke about a Dealer's Den, but please be assured I mean both that and Artist's Alley for these suggestions)
And now I see what you mean and it does make sense, tho I never sold a commission that was above 50€ or so x3 But I understand why it would be helpful. I have to think about it. My sketches are mostly not really representable, maybe I can find somehting black and white at least or so.
Again thank you very much for your feedback and support, it's much appreciated!
