Hivedog Species information! (continuously updated)

General
So here I'll put info and answer all questions about Hivedogs, And we'll have a list of Hivedog members ^_^.
So if you guys would like one yourself you have some notes to design them with.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/32378878
Some extra notes:
- They can be Masculine, Feminine Or Neither (Androgenous)
- They can be designed inspired by ANY invertebrate; Antennae/Wings/Tail have BOUNDLESS possibilities XD
- They can be any colour combo/ pattern
- They do not HAVE to have Wings or Antennae (these are optional XD)
- The defining features are the Ears, Teeth, and Hip armour.
- You can choose from (currently TWO) Hives to belong to; Reggie's hive (the Rainbow Honeycomb) Or The Nebula Tree Hive (the Queen for which I will draw soon XD)
Any questions let me know!
If you make one, Be sure to show me! and let me know which Hive you belong to (they will be competing for numbers XD)

Questions being answered:
- Are all females able to conceive? Do they bear to term or are they hatched?
They lay eggs and Reggie has made the decision to allow others to breed if they so wish. She wants to bring Hivedogs into the modern age in alignment with most other species around them, so the HIVE is more just a community these days rather than say like Bees. She's still the Queen but as she is a Runt and cannot breed herself (which Is why Hivedogs are so low in number- at least until you lovely folks join in to grow the Hives)
- Are there different castes of hivedogs? Workers? Defenders? Couchpotatoes?
Historically; yes but with the new social/community/Modern structure allowing family units not born just from a single queen it becomes more like modern humans. You can make Worker, Soldier types but they are not Born into any particular role i.e. you could have a Soldier looking one that was a baker instead XD
- How closely tied are they to their queen? Just a picture on the wall and the occasional "god save the queen"? Or maybe a full-on hive-mind?
Being descended from creatures that Act like Bees (where all are individual but FIERCELY connected) they should all still have a deep love for their Queens, but it's more like; If you were asked of something you would do it.
- How well do they get along with hivedogs from other queens? (I imagine this might be covered when the other queens are introduced)
Since Reggie is the one who determines who becomes a Queen, it's all friendly, (at the moment) numbers are small so different Hives mean better gene pools and more chance at repopulating. Think of the other Hives as your Cousins!
- How well do they get along with non-hivedogs, for that matter?
Very well, unless they try to eat them/harm them etc. (The hive will defend any other hivedog in danger)
- Is Alor from Reggie's hive?
Yes, Alor is Reggie's younger sister, who acts like a Vizier to Reggie.
- Have the hips evolved that way to provide handles for the males?
Not intentionally XD their base design was inspired by Trilobite Beetles, though you can add any invertebrate design to yours; Moth, ant, spider etc (Yes they CAN have multiple arms or vestigial -useless- legs running near the base of the tail if you wanted the look of a many legged critter without too many arms. XD)
- Does the height-distribution of hivedogs follow a bell-curve?
Pretty much! (Very tall/ very short are not as common)
- If so, what would be the mean and the standard deviation for females/males?
Not really, size difference can vary depending on worker/soldier/normal (soldiers can get fairly big; 7-8ft at the tallest both M/F but at that size you won't find winged ones) Smaller ones tend to be more likely to have wings- it IS possible for a big soldier to have wings but they wouldn't be able to fly XD
-I guess an obvious next question would be how hivedogs feel about relations and sexuality. Are they monogamous? Poly-amorous? Are they shy about it or open?
It differs between individuals, since traditionally Only the queen bred, the others had no real need, but these days it's sort of a new thing for EVERYONE! some will jump right in, some will be shy, some will try polyamory, others will find monogamy more suited to their tastes.
-So far there has been plenty of casual nudity. Is that just a still-creating-the-species thing or are hive-members just that casual around each other? And if the latter, what about around others?
A creating the Sp. thing, And I don't like drawing clothes XD
-What about Reggie, Alor or Taloona? What's their personal stance on these matters?
Reggie likes comfort, Alor trys to look professional and Taloona just does what she likes XD
-And on a more practical note: are there any limitations I should be aware of when drawing your hivedogs?
Really as long as the defining features are there: The multi-lobed ears, the teeth and the hip crests. They are the only real constants within the Species.

Semi-related to that: I sorta pictured early hivedogs to be living in these large communities together. Is that accurate? With the coming of the "modern times", I'd think they'd still be inclined to do so, though there would be more contact with the outside world.
And yes, once I start thinking about Lore, I often get carried away ^^;
- Yeah they'd live in something like modern flats- but more communally based. I'll have to draw one up because Hivedog architecture (in my head) is pretty XD But! some may choose to live away from the Hive whilst still being loyal XD these are sentient beings so such a thing would have been common practice to have pockets of the hive here and there maximizing resource sustainability all while still being loyal to their Queen.
Seriously though, I really should read up on insects. That stuff is quite interesting. And yes, I was thinking there might be some awkwardness early on. Aegis definitely would be at first, though I imagine he might change his mind once he figures out it can bring a smile to other's faces. He does like seeing people happy. Of course, once they do figure things out, some of the others might be more like teenagers on their first unsupervised trip to Spain >.>
As for hivedog architecture, I would love to see some. I can't stop thinking about SimCity's arcologies, but then on a smaller scale. At the same time, some sort of town/community could work great as well. Sorta like the Amish, but more modern. It'll be interesting to see what you have in mind.
I've even given clothes some thought. For those with wings you'd have little choice but to leave the back entirely bare. And since there's a big-ass tail getting in the way, things do get complicated around there as well. Now I'm hardly a fashion expert, but I think something loose that sorta hangs off the hips and ties around the neck would work best for the women at least. Ass-less chaps came to mind as well, but um... yeah... not so sure about that...
Then again, they just might follow the insectis fashion sense. I doubt they're too worried about being "decent" all the time, particularly since they never really needed to cover up except for protection from the elements.
Aaaaand that's enough of my rambling for this morning :D
