I don't. I wish i could do it more but it's not exactly the cheapest of activities. So i can only count ireland and tunisia to the countries i've visited so far.

But serious question, what species, aside from your own, is your favourite?

Favourite is always tough because there's just so much to choose from, but i do quite like maned wolves, so they'd perhaps be #2 on the list.

what do you find the easiest and most difficult thing to draw?

I don't think there's really a blanket answer for that. There are so many variables involved that what can be easy in one painting, ends up being super tough in another. The trend is for me to struggle more with futuristic things and adult images, while calmer images tend to be easier. But, yeah, that's just a trend and by no means a hard rule.

I'd be surprised if you never got this question, but what inspired to you take up art?

And how long did it take for you to become as skillful as you are now?

I don't know what exactly it was as it's just been too long ago. I think it really was mostly a case of just finding out that there are art communities on the internet with deviantart back then, and picking things up from there. Of course theoretically there is also like stuff before that when i was even younger, but i think that would be sort of the point i'd consider the start of the current spell of interest in art.

If one of these two conspiracy theories was asked to become reality to a genie, would you prefer it to be flat earth, or hollow earth?

And the real Q: Are there any artists you look up to within the community? Are there any artists that made an impact in your style as you developed it?

The hollow earth one. I mean the flat earth conspiracy is all about how our current earth is perceived as being flat by human-sensory-standards. So that would be rather boring as nothing would essentially change (with the exception of the end of the earth probably looking rather spectacular). With a hollow earth however you have added some element, as we'd get to explore the inside of it! So clearly the hollow one is the superior one.

As for the real questions.
Yes, a bunch of them, like for the most part i curate the list of people i watch pretty tightly, so probably like 80% of the people in there are artist i rate (or rated in the past) highly. ANd to name some names, people like caraid, lofi, doncoyote, bubblewolf. And yes, plenty of them made an impact on my art as well. I'm always trying to figure out what other people are doing and what might be applicable for me or what might help along.

If you hadn't been a painter, do you think you may have been an artist in another idiom like music, writing or design? Weird question, I know...

The plan before i took up art fulltime was to go into graphic design, because it's the more obvious money maker. But i don't think i would have done so without the artist thing going on. So no, i don't think i would be.

Less dirty question: what are your favorite themes to draw? I notice your personal pieces, when not getting jizz all over your glasses, involve a lot of Nomax at sea.

I'm pretty evenly bisexual, so no weighted preference towards either , but there are periods where that varies towards one side or the other.

And yep, that's a pretty apt observation. Generally speaking historical themes are what i enjoy drawing. Naval settings of coure being one them

Not to mention you get a cabin boy when you're at sea to follow your every command. At least, assuming you're the captain of the ship.

I mean go big or go home, so you gotta go with a ship-of-the-line type of ship. Also Nomax never is imaged as the captain.

That i'm apparently not good enough for art related schools given that i was rejected by all of them.

I don't know anymore what my portfolios entailed but i can imagine there being a fruit or so in one of them

a warm earthy orange tone usually makes things easy.

Everything. It's more a case of what i'm going to tackle first rather than what i want to get better at. Currently in line are values.

Nothing. Being remembered after death isn't really a goal of mine.

Hiking/biking(if i find the spare change to get a new one) and video games probably take up most of my time off.

Beer in general, but within that i do like to mix it up and order just whichever one i haven't heard of/haven't tried yet. I mean there are tons and tons of different breweries after all, so might as well spread out.

If you're going out for a social evening with someone, what is/are your favorite thing(s) to do?

i tend to prefer things to be on the quieter end, so watching movies if something strikes our fancy/playing games together, eating out, evening hike or something like that. Basically i need my evenings to relax and recharge, so if someone's around then it'll just be relaxing and recharging with that someone. :D

How often do you read journals on FA? ;-p

Very much depends on the title if i open them or not, but i do probably skip 90% of them or so if not more. I feel like twitter is become more of the interaction platform, and also i do mostly watch artists on here, so many of the journals are commission/ych journals anyway. So not always really necessary to open them if i'm not in the market for one at that time. :D

After I did a sign once I became ambidextrous, but it still feels a little weird to draw that way but I can.

Have you ever painted on Glass matte? With a brush? ...doing all the layers in one layer; so it looks the same on the inside in after the sun goes down?

Nope, haven't done that. Just generally haven't done a whole lot of traditional work.

Then HOW did you get the James Gurney methods to work since his artwork is all traditional? And easily understood to me for how to add it to illustration or painting. I cannot get the same effects because no matter how many layers I use they are all lost when I have to flatten the image to upload!

I don't think that as an artist i'm particularly close to James Gurney in my approach or style, nor is it my goal. So i'm not sure there's a whole lot for me to say. But painting digitally isn't really much different from painting traditionally, so it's just the same process of laying down paint where one thinks it belongs to reinforce what you are after. Whether that's the shape of an object, or the colour gradation on a sky or whatever it may be.

are you satisfied with making a living off commissions in the fandom, or would you like to move on to something else if the opportunity arises?

Yes to both. I'm satisfied, but am striving for other things as well.

Doing something for MtG would be a (relatively) short term goal.

Uh... For some reason I feel the need to ask a question to this stranger on the internet that I will most likely forget their answer to, but regardless, if you're willing to answer, you have any religion? Or philosophy?

No religion. If i'd have to have put myself into a a box it'd be a sort of humanism & determinism mix.

I find myself incredibly interested in you (which I rather hate) and there is one question I do have:

What's the lore behind Nomax as a character? He's clearly got his own story going for him.

There is at least in theory. But i just haven't had enough time to really sit down and figure that out, so there isn't anything concrete beyond the idea of him being a guest/hired cartographer on a ship and sort of a story that evolves from that. Several direction i thought it could go but yeah, nothing really more concrete than that as of yet so it's a bit hard to really say much more beyond that unfortunately

I sincerely look forward to it. I love the ships and general themes of the colonial era so there's a couple of things you've done that have helped create certain stories and themes in my mind, was hoping there was more depth behind the Nomax character! Oh well, back to sea shanties! :P
