"Dr. Marina Andressa"
(sorry for bad translation)
In 2003, on television in Cyprus Vasiliu family asked for help: little Andreas Vasiliu suffered from leukemia, and urgently needed a spinal cord transplant. Fortunately, the material for transplantation was found, and the family gathered in the United States for a complex operation. But before flying to America, the family heard about the monastery of St. Marina, on the Greek island of Andros, where the finger of the Saint is stored. Vasilios called Abbot O. Cyprian with a request to pray for their suffering child. Father Cyprian promised that he would pray for the health of Andreas, and wished that St. Marina – the patroness of children – helped the child in the operating room.
In the American clinic, after passing the necessary tests, little Andreas, struggling for life, was transferred to the operating room. A few minutes before the fateful operation began, an unknown girl came into the surgeon's office. She introduced herself as Andreas ' personal doctor and asked to be allowed to attend the child's surgery. From the words of the young doctor it became quite obvious that she has perfect medical knowledge, so the American surgeon was happy to invite her to the operating room. The doctor was not just present at the operation, but took an active part in it, telling others what to do at this moment. The operation was brilliant, and the surgeon, thanking his "colleague", left the operating room. Andreas's parents hurried to him to find out how the operation went.
– All is well, – said the surgeon, – but I cannot understand one thing: having such a fine doctor, why did you come to me?"
Confused parents, without understanding anything, assured that they have no personal doctor, but the American doctor claimed that personal doctor Andreas saw all personnel. They tried to find the mysterious guest, but she disappeared so that no one noticed her. Basilio realized that the wish of the Abbot Cyprian became a reality, and the mysterious "doctor" was the Holy Martyr Marina herself. And indeed, the girl came to the office of the U.S. surgeon introduced herself as Marina Andressa!
Andreas Vassiliou, now a young man, comes every year with his parents to FR. Andros to thank St. Marina and glorify God, marvelous in his saints.
