well, the graphic design career is kind of complicated base on how kind of hard is to pin-point the right path; not sure if high-level education is really going to be offering much for this area, or at least not as much new that independent individual courses can already provide. (other than also a fancy degree and prob a few student debts)

For what I seen, the area of practice that most graphics design are put are on web-front end development thought is not limited to it; according to wiki the areas are also very proactive in the sectors of Advertising, Brand management, Illustration, Typography & even some game development (mostly UI & UX design).

Most often than not, is a portfolio the thing that makes most of the career, building it up and presenting it when applying for the position.

A few of the items that one might try to study would be stuff like designing visuals for accessibility, styles, flow, composition, visual synergies and such.

At least that's what I think it works; might be good to ask for second opinions for people in that field as I'm sure i did a pretty superficial coverage. ^^'
