Based on how I've always seen it done, you should gather up all art and commissions of character into a nice folder. Then basically Auction them off to the highest bidder (starting price up to you). Make a submission, a nice pic of them with the words "Adopt or For Sale" on top. That'll get people attention. Who ever wins the auction, send them the folder of pics and commissions for them to upload or keep at their leisure.

Should note though, if your in a pinch and just need some quick cash, selling characters isn't a great method. Getting characters back is a process and a half and it often leads to issues. (of course if its a character you weren't to attached to and/or did much with, then who cares right?)

Welcome back, but I am sorry for your losses and struggles.

Step 1) Ensure you actually have the copyright to the work. It's not enough to own characters. The artists must have explicitly agreed to have transferred ownership of the copyright to you. I don't think most folks who sell their characters know to do this, but on the same token, not many artists do anything about their work being sold off (if they even become aware). If you drew the artwork yourself, then included in the sale to the new buyer would be either a license or a transfer of the copyright ownership.

Step 2) Collect all material related to that IP in a nifty package to give to the buyer.

Step 3) Announcements, postings, auctions, sales - figure out how you want to actually sell the work, then commit to it.

Step 4) This one is a two-parter!

4a - Most Likely To Happen) Either get little to no interest, or paltry offers of very little money.

4b - Less Likely To Happen) A 'whale' with too much money who hoards/collects characters and artwork offers a reasonable sum of money, the transfer is made, they post the art, and proceed to forget about their purchase and keep buying IPs to fill an empty void in their souls.

Step 5) Continue to live your life and focus on what's important. Maybe this furry stuff will be important, but maybe it won't. And that's OK. You are valid no matter what happens.
