Chromatic and Kayla (No, they're not hooking up)
Before I posted Chromatic's bio, all my bios had been rated General. I rated Chromatic's Mature because of his backstory (LGBT homeless youth prostituting himself to survive) and my worry for how others might react to it. Haven't gotten any complaints though. No one calling for my head. Of course, I never intend to explicitly portray him with any clients (no sex, anyway).
Which brings me to Kayla. Kayla has probably the darkest backstory of all my characters (heroic characters, anyway. I'm sure at least one of my villains has an even darker one). A while back, I started writing a story depicting the events that led to Kayla's assassination attempt on Timothy Bordick. That includes Bordick blackmailing Lillian into his bed, Lillian's murder and the abuse and neglect Kayla suffered in the foster care system. After a while, I was less comfortable with the idea of depicting Kayla's abuse. At present time, the story is on hiatus. Any mentions of her troubled youth will just be references rather than outright scenes.
Maybe this isn't the most visceral storytelling, but it's what I feel comfortable with as a writer.

Very understandable. Most folks aren't comfortable with child abuse of that magnitude, and fade-to-black scenes and references are fine.
