Coming Back Announcement/Need Advice on New Project!
First off, wow! I didn’t think I would get the responses I did in my last journal. I’m happy to see that so many of you are still around! I’m sorry about not posting as much as I should, but that is about to change.
So as a lot of you know, I got into the pony fandom for a while and have been doing that. I am still going to be doing the pony stuff, but I’ve been wanting to come back to the furry world for a while now and have been working up a story behind the scenes with anthro characters. I’ve posted a few of the characters from the story like these two http://www.furaffinity.net/view/29684547/ awhile ago. Well I think I am ready to tell their story, but I want to do it in a new way that I haven’t done before.
I want to make a lewd game with them.
Before I was planning on doing a comic, but this way seems so much more fun, and I can touch on a lot more if I try to do it in a game. So you guys will see more anthro stuff from me going forward as I post stuff for the game here. It will be more like a visual novel but you will have a lot of ways to interact with the girls and have a lot of stuff to manage. If you guys are more interested I can post my plans for the game mechanics here, but for now, I need some help.
One of the problems with the story I wanted to tell in the comic forum was the main protagonist. The idea behind the story was going to be about a guy that comes from a predator/carnivore territory (like a wolf, or tiger male) that has moved far from his homeland in search for a fresh start on life. He does this by going into a prey/herbivore territory where his kind is not very welcomed for obvious reasons. He would have gone through and met a lot of herbivore girls in his journey that he would get to know and fall for as he made a place for himself in this new world which is still the plan for the game’s story. My trouble is, I still don’t know who I want the main character to be. I am leaning towards a wolf male even though that's way overdone, I still like the idea. But then I have been thinking, what if I make the main character a human? This might have a broader appeal to others outside the furry landscape, and I can still do the predator/prey theme, but a human to me wouldn’t be as much fun.
So I wanted to ask your thoughts on all this. First off, would you guys even be interested in a lewd furry game by me? Second, would you want the main character to be furry as well, or would a human work for you too?
Please give me your thoughts in the comments and thank you all! <3

I wouldn't wanna see a human in the adventure you want to make, it just seems out of place to me personally.
tiger or wolf is a tough choice, i think a expanded backstory for either of them (for your personal use), even a small one may help you figure out who would fit in where better, both choices will work well.
What ever you decide to do, i'm sure it will kick ass.
I second maned wolf; if you get into character development the fact that he is omnivorous could be used to make him a stranger in both camps. The wolf-wolves see him as a cow and the cows see him as a wolf. He has to face being the outsider everywhere.
It just occurred to me that you could come up with a mythical or a species of your own, a creature expressly designed for the purposes of your story. For example, a minotaur might work. They ate people, in mythology, so we can assume bovine, but he has fangs, claws, maybe cat's eyes. A nation of herbivores would probably find that more disturbing than a more foreign body form. Imagine how you'd react to a human with long fangs, cat eyes, and retractile claws! Much more disturbing than a cat with those features.
Personally, I think a fanged not-quite-unicorn would be fun! Fangs, claws, maybe two nose horns- a shorter one in front, a longer one between the eyes. Kind of exotic, alien, and cool. And you know the biggest (heh heh heh) cliche about horses.
Yeah that would be how I would do it. The fact that his kind does eat them or used to at some point would create some drama and challenge.
I do have a mythical creature in this game, but she will be one that helps the player along.
For example, I'm personally very tired of wolves/big cats and predator species in general. Some days it seems that 90% of all furry content involves them, and I do NOT feel that connection resonates with me. So IF the protag were a male wolf, I would personally be less connected to the story. BUT, as I'm in that 10% minority, the 90% majority might love the way the character feels.
If you can't plan the project in a way that allows the character to be generic (which is entirely possible), then go for what makes the most sense for your vision of the tale. That authenticism will resonate through the work, and you'll have an easier time working on it if it feels right. Besides, you'll never lack fans for a woof I'm sure.
Rochndil, who looks forward to seeing what's coming...
Yeah, I'm sick of it too myself, which is why I though of doing a human or something, but like you said, most still love the wolves. I'm still thinking on is, but I might end up doing the woofer in the end.
If you're going for that pred/prey kind of dynamic I would want it to be furry only. Human/furry has all kinds of dynamics going on which would muddy the more clear message of your main char moving into different territory. Otherwise, if you go human, you'd be looking at different nuances and characteristics in order to tell the preds from the prey.
Regarding the protag, definitely go with a furry here. It just fits the world you sre building a lot more story wise and as you said, you aren't gonna habe as much fun with a human as you would otherwise. It's important to consider your own enjoyment and investment in a product, because the more you like it, the better you are going to try and make it.
It's something that a lot of people often overlook
also yes and yes :P
