Life in Florida

So many of us live in Florida! I'm in the path of the hurricane, but I'm fairly in land (as far as 'in land' counts in Florida) so there's a chance I'll lose power, etc. when that thing hits. Keep your fingers crossed for us!

I moved when I broke up with my ex. She got the house. I moved to Florida. I don't exactly /want/ to live here, but it was my best option at the time. I'm going to try to be moving back to North Carolina in a couple of months.

Florida ain't so bad. I lived in Jacksonville for almost 12 years.

It's very flat and very hot, which both make me super uncomfortable. I don't think there's anything wrong with Florida, it just doesn't feel like 'home'

Well, that's true. Jacksonville is only 55 miles south of my home and it didn't really feel like home. (I'm a small town boy and I love it.) But, I did make some pretty good friends there and some not so good friends, too. LOL.

Iv lived in Florida my whole life, moved to Dade City not that long ago but well before that last major hurricane.

I've not been here long. it's been a hard adjustment. I'm from the mountains, and there's definitely no mountains here.

Well the Dade City area is the foothills of Florida, not mountains though and it is basically Satan’s chest on the Florida heat scale

I live in Texas, actually about 80 miles from the geographic center.
It's at least 350 miles to the coast, yet when that hurricane hit Houston, EVERYONE was asking if I was ok.
I finally had to explain it was like watching NASCAR. "I'm far enough up in the stands I'm NOT going to get hit by a car, and IF an errant tire heads in my direction, I have time to get out of the way."

Florida is hot and wet. Right now it's the end of August and it's hot and wet in Eastern Connecticut; I don't even want to think what it's like south of the Okefenokee. At least I've got hills -- I live on top of one.

I miss hills and mountains SO MUCH. And yeah, it's hot and wet. Hot enough that we just stay indoors all the time.

Stay safe! In my experience from growing up down there, FL seemed to handle hurricanes pretty well (compared to when they roll up the northeast). Sounds like you got your things secured, stay indoors and enjoy the ride. :)

And if you do wanna come back up to NC, I've got a spare room in Raleigh! I never quite made it out west, but it's a start.

Panhandle Floridian for 27 years, still trying to get out of this state. Lost my home to hurricane Michael last year. Good luck and stay safe, don't underestimate the wind power.
