yes cats and dogs both get it, though its apparently rarer in cats and especially in cats her age, since she's not even 2 years old yet. ;u;

We had a diabetic cat when I was growing up. She was diagnosed at 16 and she lived to be 20. My mom had to inject her with insulin twice a day I think, but she lived a happy life for those four years and died of old age, not complications from the diabetes. Since they caught it so early on for your kitty, I'm sure she'll live a happy and full life, too, once they can get her onto an insulin plan.

I'm not sure about costs or anything like that, but that's definitely something you can talk over with your vet. They have pet health insurance now too, might be something to look into if the insulin costs are too much per month or however often they prescribe refills for.

Its a lot of pressure. And financially its going to suck but obviously I'm willing to do anything to keep her healthy.

I'm not sure, but if they do i'm sure she's got type one since she's not even 2 years old and she's never been chunky.

Well, not every human with diabetes is heavier set, so maybe it's similar for kitties, and she'll just need the special food. Hopefully so. Best wishes for the fuzzy!
