As of October 2nd, the Mario & Luigi developers, AlphaDream, has declared bankruptcy.
I can only describe my feelings as this. I am not only devastated, I am also horribly let down. I'm pissed off, actually. Are you fucking serious with this? A company that was and still is near and dear to my heart, suddenly dying off like this? As if this year couldn't get any more fucking terrible as is. They were the only hope that Mario RPGs ever had going for, and now they're dead.
I will never get to see another M&L game. Ever again.
And what does Nintendo have left? Some shallow, wasteful mess that once called itself Paper Mario, thoroughly stuck in the NSMB bullshit overwhelming itself with a wannabe original character, an overabundance of some tired, weak waste of another character (Toad), and zero antagonistic focus. What. THE. FUCK.
You, as a company, honestly go ahead and call the atrocious messes that were Sticker Star and Color Splash "true" Mario RPGs? No. No. You do not go ahead and say that Paper Mario is slowly getting better. It has no original characters, no compelling story, it has jack shit apart from using the exact same fucking trash that NSMB uses. Oh look Bowser's there for like 15 seconds, oh look Koopalings, oh look Peach is captured, no. None of that shit was ever "the main thing" in Mario RPGs from the start and it should not be the main thing now. And even if it was, it at least handled it in a developed, interesting fashion, which is precisely what modern Paper Mario does not do, and will never do. Fuck it.
The one and only remaining company Nintendo had for Mario RPGs is dead. Just dead. That's it. Fuck off with that.
