Remembering the B-17G “Nine-O-Nine”
So I had the luxury of catching this Collins Foundation B-17 back in 2018, and again in April 2019.
Such a shame to lose her, and those who lost their lives aboard her.
The aircraft crashed on the morning of 2 October 2019. The flight crew reported losing an engine and made an attempt to return to the airport.
Unfortunately the aircraft crashed short of the runway, and into a de-icing facility.
7 individuals perished in the accident.
I’m currently working on the pics I took earlier this year, and will hopefully have them ready soon.

My mother sent me an article of the incident but i haven't been able to load it because my phone doesn't like colleges WiFi. I didn't know the details until now. God, may they R.i.P.

Its such a shame and a tragedy. The incident happened in my state and a lot of people here are shaken up by it. RIP to those who lost their lives. So many people are now questioning allowing these old beautiful birds to fly at all. I really hope that doesn't happen, accidents like this are rare, and these are important pieces of history.

It is rather sad to have lost so many people as well as an aircraft of that vintage. I'm partly surprised that they had not considered flying ahead on three engines and landing somewhere else. Usually looping back around causes issues especially with power loss. I wish it was a gamble that they would have won.
