Inktober 2019 - I give up
Hello there!
I hope everybody is fine!
As you have read in the title, I give up, inktober 2019 has defeated me.
This is the first time that I participate in an inktober event, and the truth, has been a lot of fun and I have learned a lot of things, unfortunately I retire having completed all the drawings until the 12th, today is already Saturday the 19th, I'm already far behind.
These are the reasons why I withdraw from the event:
1. I'm slow artist:
It doesn't take me that long to draw a sketch, but when the sketch or idea is ready, and I start to draw the lines with dark pencils to finish the lineart, I can take a long time, and more when I color or do some type of filling like the flat grayscale that I usually do.
2. I get distracted a lot:
This can easily take away hours of work because sometimes I can't concentrate when I draw.
3. I scan and clean the drawings instead of just taking a picture:
I have a smartphone with a very bad camera, so I prefer to scan and clean the drawings with photoshop to remove impurities from the scan, however depending on how clean or not the final drawing is, these can bring many or few impurities, and cleaning a drawing in the end it can take a long time depending on that, although thanks to inktober I have learned to be faster when I clean the scans.
4. I'm already physically tired:
I don't have a drawing desk, or a comfortable chair, so drawing all day is giving me strong backaches, my wrist and hand hurts a lot, this is because I press the pencils a lot when I draw, it is a bad habit I have and can get injured if I'm not careful.
I haven't really rested in all this month of vacation, because as you remember, I asked for my vacation this year in October to participate in Intkober2019, but I have only 2 weeks left before my vacation ends and I return to my job as a programmer.
5. Inktober goes against my work style:
Inktober has made me really understand how I work my drawings, something that I hadn't realized before.
I usually work the details a lot and I always look for each drawing to be the best possible, I would define it as perfectionism, whenever I draw a sketch, I erase a lot, since I'm always fixing errors in the drawing even when I'm already drawing the lines for the lineart.
To give an example in the drawing of day 10 Kral's arm I changed it almost 10 times, then it took me a long time to draw his hand, in the end I used my own hand and a mirror to find the angle of the hand I needed and draw it, but I make these changes because when I see the drawing in general and find aspects that I don't like, I change them, delete them and redraw them.
I had not taken this into account before, I almost do it automatically, and this perfectionism that I have, that everything should go well, that I don't allow errors in the stroke and the final drawing, are factors that take me a lot of time when I draw.
I don't know if this perfectionism is good or bad, but I know that it affected me a lot when it came to drawing a daily drawing at the event.
Another thing that I realized in the Inktober is that it is difficult for me to draw simple things, the drawing of day 11 for example, I was going to draw only a snowman, then I got the idea of making animals and chose to draw bears, and then I changed the original sketch and restructure the whole drawing so that the new ideas had space on the sheet.
So yes! I have trouble drawing simple things.
Final thoughts:
I'm sorry to disappoint you guys, I would have loved to reach the end of the event, but I couldn't, and the 5 reasons above explain why.
Despite finishing until day 12 I'm glad to have participated and planned for a year to get here, I'm very happy with what I achieved in this event, I have learned a lot from my skills and myself, and despite being a little sad for not having gone any further, I'm very happy with the drawings I managed to make.
I must improve my skills for an upcoming inktober, I must improve my working methods, plan better and have better discipline, I have a lot of work to do, but I know that the next inktober in which I participate, I'll be better prepared and when that happens, I'll try to get there until the end.
Thank you all for following my work in this inktober, good luck to those who still participate, greetings and a big hug.
See you later!
I hope everybody is fine!
