Whenever I see free art raffles or adopts.
Whenever I see these two things artist give out, I want one. I certainly do. But I always end up thinking, "I want this, but I know others would like it more than me".
When it comes to adopts, I honestly wouldn't know what to do with them and I'd likely never commission art of the character as I would be too nervous to do so. I know for a fact that I wouldn't give the character — and in turn, the artist who gave them to me — very much support, not using their character. I'd feel like that I robbed them of something they love.
When it comes to free art raffles, even if I ended up getting one, I don't like the idea of making someone draw something for me and I really wouldn't even know what to tell them, as I feel rather nervous about saying what I want in case they either don't like it or interpret it wrong.
A good example is a talented artist named:
EpicFurryStudio.
I was their 10,000 watcher (I think) and they said I could have a free picture with one of my characters with one of theirs. I don't have one and felt bad that they had to create one for me. The art turned out lovely and it can be viewed on their page. During the process, I was pretty nervous and had little clue as to what to do when it came to commissioning art. Luckily, they helped, so I wasn't alone in the dark on it.
So, those are the main reasons as to why I don't pursue these things. I would like to, but it ultimately comes down to that I'm just too nervous and wouldn't know what to do should I ever get the prize that the artist is giving out.

I understand that raffles and such are a way to support artists, but it doesn't change the fact that I very much dislike telling an artist what I want them to draw. I dislike ordering around someone, even if it means they'll be better off by it too.
I can definitely see how drawing what someone wants can greatly benefit an artist and get them out of their comfort zone. Drawing something they would never have thought of drawing or never wanted to, and finding out they like it. An example would be if they drew someone's character. Many different things they should consider and such. This, however, is another problem of mine as I don't have a character and (like mentioned in the first paragraph), I dislike making others draw something for me, so it's unlikely that I'll have one any time soon. Unless I draw it myself and that's not happening either.
It's nice to see that you try to make things fair for those who participate. I can appreciate that.
Also, sorry for making you privy to all the stupid journal stuff that I constantly do.
Since I never had to tell anyone to draw what I wanted, doing so feels... abnormal. Like with the artist I worked with but since there was a set scenario, I only had to describe a character off the top of my head.
Interestingly, the character I came up with is actually...my dog. I couldn't think of anything, so I looked around my room for ideas and my dog snuggled up to me for attention and he was all I could think of. It feels weird but...it was all I could think of.
1. Always forget to write them down. Even when I do remember, I'll be doing something away from the computer and when I come back, I forget.
2. When I worked with the artist, I was more than a little flabbergasted when they suddenly said I could have my character with one of theirs. I was just browsing around and suddenly, that happened. I couldn't think of any characters of the top of head while in the moment.
