Not sure here. I don't use it anymore, but occasionally I've gone back to look at an old gallery. It kinda sounds like the admins just stopped caring... That's rather sad, really.

A couple of weeks back I looked into VCL for the heck of it, and the site was a total clusterfuc. I'm afraid you're right ElKit... Seems they really are down this time.

Goodness, VCL was like my first furry experience. I forgot all about it.

I think it died about 10 years ago. I'd be surprised if anyone uploaded anything to that site past 2012.

Some pages seem to be still up, but I get a database error whenever I query something. So the backend seems to be down and the obvious question is, will it be repaired? Technically, it has been more or less inactive for years now, with you one of the few who still updated anything at all.

Geez, I remember the archive as one of my first, too, alongside the classics (now defunct, too, of course...) yerf and Orlando Furry. Those were simpler days back then...

There is art in WWOEC I never got to save and was never posted anywhere else.

Lets also not forget about the crackdowns on places where an image might have been 1:1 of a show's style, thus some asshat deemed it illegal in some manner and so it was stricken from the archive.

Kinda sad if so. Haven't used it in many years, granted, but it's kind of a piece of my internet history and furry history in general. VCL came before all the major furry art sites in active use today, as far as I can tell. It wasn't the first place online that I found furry art, but it was definitely the first large-scale furry art site I saw. Like FA's predecessor. Heh, maybe there should be a memorial.

Actually, I just looked- the landing page is up, but that's about it. Everything else seems to be inaccessible. Granted, they lost servers over the years and supposedly no new accounts have been create-able since 2013. So even if the content server(s) come back up, it'll still pretty much be a ghost town. Shame, heh.

I remember sometime within the last 2 years a mention that VCL was shutting down. I can't seem to find it, but there was an article about it. Going to their page, yeah, their navigation is still up but actual user pages are down. Not sure what's happening since I can't find that article.

As everybody else stated.. The site hasn't had a proper update since like.. maybe 2009.. It's an image database that's been overshadowed by sites like Deviantart & Furaffinity, and thus the admins have more or less abandoned the website. Why the domain's still up and running though is a mystery to me

R.I.P. VCL if it's really dead. It's legendary site, I liked its simplicity.

I just looked it up fresh-raw on Google; while there are no New Artists posted, I still seem to be able to properly access what's still there at the moment. I'm in Canada, if that's any assist in working out why you might be having trouble getting VCL to load up.

What is the URL you're using to access it? I believe VCL 'migrated' at least once in the last couple of years, but you're saying that VCL hasn't been accessible for you in the last two months, which is of course quite recent, The URL I'm using (and that seems to work) is http://us.vclart.net/vcl/

EDIT: I spoke too soon: just poked around a bit, and all image or posted creation 'links' get a database-404 error, but the basic 'directory framework' is active. Of course, the bulk of server storage data and transferred data back and forth would be the graphics and posted work itself, and those seem to be on multiple individual tries to be inaccessible or simply not present now. That's really terrible if that's the case, since I use it as online backup and alternate to this site, and it does feature art exclusive to that site that I don't post here. (Like my commissioned work, and stuff that I don't think would get much attention here.) And of course, it's a culmunation of more than 20 years of art! Granted, I still have the originals (most of them, except for commissions), and all of the old stuff are backed up on obsolete data storage technology. (Anyone remember a SyQuest Drives or zip disks?) That's like thousands of pics lost, and I'm not going to re-scan them. Guess lost is lost then.

I have a few pieces of yours that seem to be VCL-only that I saved to my computer. I could e-mail them to you if you want. I hope there'll be another option, like Wayback Machine or something, but the option is there for you.

If I ma offer a suggestion--maybe a computer repair facility may be able to read older devices?

I remember that VCL and yiffstar (before it was change to sofurry) had allot of furry porn and you and another artist called ratcandy I saw on yiffstar and that was a decade ago.man I feel so old just remembering those two sites.
