Because I feel like expressing somthing personal
16 years ago
I have a serious hero, who died a tragic death far before his time. Arguably the greatest martial artist of -all time-, Bruce Lee, who passed away July 20th, 1973 due to an extreme sensibility to a muscle relaxant gave to him by a friend to relieve a headache. His brain swelled by 13% its original size. The world heralded this as the end of a great age, and the start of a darker one, because of one mans death. Creator of Jeet Kune Do, The Way of the Intercepting Fist, and director of some of the best martial arts films to hit the silver screen, I am proud to call this man my hero. Throughout his life, he's passed wisdom down to countless students and the world abroad, and the words of that wisdom that follow are the ones I believe in, and work my hardest to follow (and fail at most attempts). These are not all of my hero's quotes that I personally believe in and follow, but the ones I wish to share.
“Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.”
“If you always put limit on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.”
"I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.”
“Showing off is the fool's idea of glory.”
“As you think, so shall you become.”
“The key to immortality is first living a life worth remembering.”
And the particular quote i -have- been living by, for better or worse
“Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not you go out and look for a successful personality an duplicate it.”
I honor the man in many minor ways. Although I don't treat my body like the temple he had, a part of my mind will always live in his philosophy, and my respect will always be his. As one of the most influential forces in my childhood development through third party media, I can almost call the man a teacher of mine. May the memory and workings of Bruce Lee live on forever immortally, for his was a life worth remembering.
