if you go into your account settings you can change the template from modern to classic. I'm a classic man myself.

Well then they should have asked their consumer (us) if we wanted a change before forcing one on us. At least use a control group to see what the feedback will be and come to a consensus.

I know I haven't been on FA as long as some of you, but I've been using the new layout for months. You could opt-in to the "beta" layout via an option in your account settings. I gave it a go, liked it better than classic, and stayed with the new design. As far as I can tell, the only real change from the beta layout was the rounded corners on various buttons and such.

That said, is actually the first journal I've come across where people DIDN'T like the change. Elsewhere people have pointed out that this new design was originally due out in 2009, so apparently it's been in progress for some time, and ten years is a lot of time to tweak things and respond to feedback.

I'm not saying that everyone should like or dislike it. I'm happy that they've given us the option, but compared to the new layout I'd rather stick with the classic. I'm familiar with it, and I like it more. That's my personal taste. If people like the new format better than all the more power to them.

But doesn't every website have to have a dark mode version? After all, that's the flavor of the month, and you can't afford to look as if you're not up on the craze of the moment...

lol. I can absolutely afford to look like I'm behind the times.

There actually is a reason for offering a dark version of sites: Some people prefer low-light environments and in such an environment having darker colours on the screen is nicer on the eyes.

And honestly, if you are going to offer a choice of colour schemes the obvious basic choice is between "light on dark" and "dark on light".

Please don't, they are no longer giving support for the old version, and they spent countless hours on this. It's time to move on.

Effort does not equate to efficiency. A person can spend countless hours on a mistake and that doesn't make it good or wanted.

Yeah the new look was a bit of an eye sore. Not in a bad way, just having to visually read through the new setup. It looks similar to the setup used on Deviantart now.

Yes, but it's two settings -- you can't just select 'Light' under 'classic' in the dropdown for the various schemes; you have to select 'Classic' in the 'Mode' dropdown above it, even though in the bottom dropdown, it looks as if you're picking 'classic light'. Because you can't have one selector when you could have two to make it more confusing for the user to select what they want instead of giving up and staying with what your superiors have decreed is supposed to be the new hotness.

I've got Classic Dark going right now.

It's a bit different, but I expect it'll soon feel familiar.

It's awful and I hate it.

Like you, I was a little surprised when I clicked on my FA link this morning and found this. It looks different from the old but, at the same time, it looks familiar enough that I can still navigate with little to no problem.
