GOTY 2019: RESIDENT EVIL 2
Now, I know I made it a rule to myself that I never put forward a remake as my game of the year. However, for 2019 I can't think of any other title that deserves the acolade. Resident Evil 2 (2019) is not just the same game with an HD coat of paint and Capcom have really outdone themselves here. The visuals look stunning on the RE Engine (same game engine used for Resident Evil 7), gameplay has greatly improved, story has been completely re-written and no more cheesy or hammy voice acting. Of course, Mr. X (Tyrant 00) does make the game a bugger to get through halfway through but this is the best offering from the series I've seen since RE 7. Sunk loads of time into this game and I even checked out the extra game modes (lost survivors, etc). Waiting with anticipation for the RE 3 re-make. You are once again about to enter the world of survivor horror...
HONOURABLE MENTION: ACE COMBAT 7: SKIES UNKNOWN
Next to Resident Evil 2 (2019) this is the only other game I played extensively through 2019. I gotta admit, if you're not familiar with Ace Combat series or flight sims as a genre it's a hard game to recommend. But if you like your military hardware more airborne than ground-pounding mobile artillery give it a go.
