He went on a rant at one of my friends on Twitter for saying what he was hearing from some insiders - probably because it's EXACTLY what he's planning. I don't think the inbox thing will be a thing, but mark my words this will happen;

1.) Submissions (of all types) for 'Free Mode' users will be time gated (1/hour or 1/day, likely)
2.) Paid Users will get their own section on the front page and it will bump 'Free Mode' users off
3.) Search will be HIGHLY restricted for 'Free Mode' users a la Pixiv.

He may scream and deny, but this WILL happen, mark my words.

It looks nice and all, but with a paid model being implemented, it doesn't inspire any faith that the site as a whole will improve for everybody. It'll probably get to a point where the free version is so clunky and inconvenient, that you basically have no choice but to use the paid model to get ANYTHING done. But don't worry guys! They're not FoRcInG yOu to get the paid version; they're just making anything other than the paid version absolutely useless so you have no choice BUT to shell out cash you shouldn't have to spend for the paid version. They'll just be substituting one disgusting business tactic for another.

Yup, and they're gonna keep insisting that they're not 'forcing you into FA+' while they keep making FA harder to use for people who don't feel that something that supported itself for all this time financially without this BS paid model should be telling them to shell out this cash for things this site did and can do for free. Honestly, it's not the paid model I take issue with: it's them turning the free model into shit and treating non-paying users like garbage that pisses me off- which they're gonna do. It's just inevitable.

Constant fundraising burns people out. After doing that for ten years, I'd be desperate for any way out I could too. But this isn't sustainable either, just more easily ignorable.

Burnout doesn't justify changing to a functioning money-earning system to another that shoots user faith in the back of the head. I'm not saying that's not a understandable issue; I'm saying that, at some point, someone controlling a platform or business shouldn't let their personal interests screw over that platform or business with clearly bad decisions. Separate the person from the product.

It's not all the same old ad provider, either. They've added one of the ones that ditched FA for not liking its content. Either they'll be driven rapidly to sketchier providers, or driven rapidly to curtail kinds of content here.
