Furry Writing
Does anyone know of any active writing groups here? The ones linked from
fawd.v1 are all, or certainly appear to be, dead, and have been for years.
What about furry writing sites? All I'm finding are dead links and ghosts.
Writing really does feel like an afterthought, at best, on every Big Furry Site except SoFurry, where basic functionality is an afterthought. Even where it's supported half-decently, eg Weasyl, it seems to attract very little attention. Is the fandom really that apathetic to the written word, or is it a more widespread issue? I refuse to accept that furries willy only invest time in stories if they can be fapped to.

I've given up on writing. I apologize to the 6 or 7 people who cared about what I did or pitied me enough to buy my books.

I couldn't give up if I wanted to; writing's much too big a part of me. I wonder if you truly can, either. You're certainly doing yourself a disservice; you're a positive success compared to me. Certainly a deeper, far more intelligent writer.

Maybe I will one day. Right now I'm almost 36 and my publishing has been yielding diminishing returns for a while. The publishers who used to like my work aren't so hot on it (or me) any more. I'm not good enough to get published outside the fandom. I always wondered how someone could properly call themselves a "failed" writer but now I know.

I have, admittedly, noticed a backwards slide in writing in the last few years. A while back, there was plenty of short stories and a few novel series being released by different authors. You could find a specific interest and often find something new every other day at least. Now, you could check back on something like SoFurry and find maybe two or three updates once a month. Half the time, the quality is fairly low on top of it all. Definitely not like what things used to be years ago.

Thanks for the reply, and agreed. Definitely not the quantity, variety or quality there used to be, which would unquestionably contribute to reader apathy. Bit of a feedback loop going, perhaps. A shame, regardless; writing's as valid as any other art form, and I don't doubt there's still plently of talent in the fandom.

Indeed. I remember actually rummaging through non-furry porn lit floating around. I actually gained an appreciation for furry porn lit because of it. The quality I found was, well, bad by comparison. I think I was looking through lit-erotica or something like that.
