2019 Personal Favorites

General
2019 was a rough final year to an even rougher decade that saw a rise in cancel culture, fake news, political divisiveness, SJW authoritarianism, woke entertainment media, and tech monopolies turning society into a censorious, nightmare dystopia.
Now that we've started a new decade for the 2020's, let's forget about the bad and reflect on the things that brought us joy in 2019. No theme or categories; it can be movies, tv shows, anime, games. Just has to be from 2019.
Here's some stuff I loved that I didn't get a chance to discuss last year.
Carnival Row
This Amazon series takes place in a dark fantasy, Steampunk world. Fantasy creatures, called the "Critch" by humans, escaped their war-torn homeland to live in a human city. As the immigrant population grows, so does the racism and resentment by humans towards the Critch.
There's a mystery with the main character Philo; a war vet and detective investigating a series of murders by some sort of monster. Philo has a very tragic story of unresolved love with Vignette, a fairy he knew from the war, who recently escaped to the same city.
There's political intrigue, Lovecraftian horror, a spicy sublot involving a wealthy puck moving into a human neighborhood, and if that doesn't sell it for you, there's lots of fairy-on-human sex and fairy titties.
Hazbin Hotel
The characters all had creative designs, the songs were catchy, and the 2D animation was impressive for an indie team. Charlie and Alastor were my favorite characters; they contrast each other well. I love how optimistic and adorable Charlie is, and I love Alastor's devilish charm and vintage radio announcer voice.
Favorite moment was "How does it feel that I got your pen huh?....BITCH!" Just the way a sweet character like Charlie says a curse word cracked me up.
Hazbin has a growing hatedom because lots of people are annoyed with how popular it got. Personally, it's always refreshing to see more adult animation that looks cute, and colorful like this.
Hope they manage to get a full Season and continue the story past the first episode. Although if they get picked up, the creator and her team must have full creative control. I don't want their creative vision censored or a bunch of executives with check-boxes stripping it of it's unique style.
It's pretty much a Disney princess musical crossed with Invader Zim. Speaking of...
Invader Zim: Into the Florpus
Funniest movie I saw all year. The animation was as manic and as energetic as when it first aired. It was silly and cynical, but it had surprisingly heartwarming moments between Dib and his family. Professor Membrane practically steals the movie.
Favorite moments were the anime style intro, "My name is Dib. I'm 12 years old!" and that whole stupid, drawn out joke where Zim can't hear Dib from so far away, "You'll never get away with this!" "WHAT?!?" "You'll never get away wi-" "WHAT?!?"
I felt it was a better finale than Samurai Jack or Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling, because it didn't rush the story or rely on nostalgia and constant callbacks to wrap everything up.
If Invader Zim never gets another season, this movie was a satisfying finale.
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie
I consider Breaking Bad one of the greatest tv shows of all time. This movie serves as an epilogue for one of the main characters and takes place mere seconds after the show's ending. It's almost like extra DLC for the story.
The creator returns as the director and writer. He does such a great job with the suspense and composition of scenery, you almost forget some of these actors got a little older and fatter, despite the story's timeline. LOL
Was this movie necessary? Not really. Did I love seeing these characters again and the world of Breaking Bad revisited by the creator? "You're goddamn right."
I dare not spoil anything. Definitely, you should watch the show first before El Camino to fully appreciate it as a swan song. Both are on Netflix.
Resident Evil 2 Remake
My best friend insisted on me playing the remake for RE2. I'm not as big a fan of RE as he is, but I really liked the mix of survival horror and 3rd person shooter action from RE4; the first RE game I've ever played and one of my favorite games.
A lot of modern games hold your hand, but RE2 wants you to explore and scavenge around before you can progress. It was always a good feeling whenever I figured out a solution to a puzzle. The scariest thing in RE2 was the zombies. Lickers and monsters I could handle, but the zombies made me anxious. Mr. X was pretty tense too whenever you hear his music and footsteps, but have no idea where he'll come from.
RE2 has a lot of replay value with some of the differences in Leon and Claire's plathroughs; plus they added free DLC. I've finished both once and look forward to replaying both again to get the true ending.
Joker
Entertainment has gotten too safe, stale, and PC. Joker was a welcome shock to the system.
Joaquin Phoenix was amazing as Arthur Fleck. You can see the pain and sorrow on his face when he laughs. He was disturbing but also tragic; like a Joker version of Pagliacci. While very different from so many other Jokers, the story stays true to the spirit and lore of the character.
This is an intelligent movie that wants audiences to think for themselves and interpret subtext. To be exposed to a different perspective with a darker story. To discuss uncomfortable topics of mental health and how society creates criminals like Arthur.
Critics and journalists find these ideas dangerous, so they wanted it censored. They were even cheering and foaming at the mouth for something bad to happen; for people to die after the movie released to be validated. It was disgusting.
Judging this film by it's own merit doesn't sell clickbait. You know what does? "Joker" is alt right, incel propaganda and it celebrates mass shootings, misogyny, eating disorders, Trump, and pedo glam rock stars!
But we should thank them for giving the movie so much free press and making it the first R-rated film to make a billion dollars, without China's box office.
The Boys
Based on the comic series of the same name, this Amazon Prime series is about a world where Superheroes are the biggest assholes celebs in the world. They cause tons of collateral damage, but they get good publicity by a mega corporation with zero value for human life.
What I especially liked about this show is how all the characters were flawed. You root for the protagonists Hughie Campbell and Billy Butcher, but even they do morally questionable things. The superheroes are hateable antagonists, but the more you learn about some of them, the more sympathy you feel.
I always complain about how Marvel films feel too clean and safe. They don't have to get violent on the level of Deadpool, but the stakes never feel high. The Boys is a show where you get to see the real consequences of people with super powers. For example, if a speedster runs through you, you end up as nothing but a puddle of blood and bones. One of the main villains is Homelander, whose like Superman mixed with Captain America. Every scene with him is tense, because you the show is able to show how brutal his powers are; especially his laser vision.
Excellent series. Looking forward to Season 2.
DC Super Hero Girls
The complete opposite of a superhero shows like The Boys. Take the DC Universe, Powerpuff Girls, and MLP: Friendship is Magic and put it all in a blender. It helps an industry veteran like Lauren Faust developed the show.
I'll go more in-depth for a later journal, but I felt this show was what She-Ra and the PPG reboots should have been. The fluid animation and character writing makes those reboots look even worse.
The first Season of DCSHG is on Netflix if you want to give it a watch. Best cartoon of 2019.

Conclusion
Those were some of my personal favorites. What stuff did you love from 2019?
FA+

-Cancel culture is real. Twitter mobs always try canceling celebs like James Gunn or Kevin Hart for decade old jokes. Jokes they already apologized years before. They never care about context or seeing evidence; lots of careers were destroyed cause of this type of mentality.
-Fake news is real. There's plenty of examples on both sides of the political spectrum. Fox News and CNN being some of the most biased examples.
-The political divisiveness is real. The last few years since Drumpf won has been constant arguing and debating about politics. It's going to get even worse if he wins again.
-Woke entertainment media is real. Plenty of companies have literally used "feminism" and "woke" to market their movies, games, and shows. Many of which got woke, and went broke. They focus on that more than making good story and characters.
-SJW's are real. They're a loud, vocal minority with puritanical world views that want to censor media and have gone after artists like me because of what we draw. On Twitter, I see lots of NSFW artists get harassed by SJW's who want to censor their art; like Mr. Devilhs for his Rey art. I got some of that harassment once or twice in the past too.
-Tech monopolies censoring and being evil is real.
-Supreme Court questioned the Facebook CEO for privacy concerns and political manipulation.
-YouTube de-platforms channels and makes videos invisible, not just for swearing, but for use of words like "nazi" or "racism"; doesn't matter the context if it's for news or education. It's fine when the big corporate channels do it though.
-Google has no problems with communist countries like China censoring the search engine. They constantly get sanctions from different countries for privacy and data protection cases. They once removed "Don't be evil" -from the company's code of conduct.
-Twitter shadow bans people with no warning; I've been shadowbanned.
How is any of what I said not reality when I've experienced and seen some of it? You don't have to agree with everything I say, but I'm not making anything up.
1. Cancel Culture = "REEEEEEEEEEEE FAMOUS AM ABOVE LAW". Look, here's the thing, if you're an American citizen, whether you're a movie star, a comedian, or a politician, you follow the rules. If you steal, you should be punished. If you rape, punished. Get it? Just because you're foaming at the mouth over the Bill Cosby verdict doesn't change the law.
2. Usually when your ilk says "Fake News", they mean "Lugenpresse", a term coined in 1930s Germany to dismiss the truth without having to back it up. At least Obama backed up his claims, why can't you Reds?
3. Yeah, you Reds caused it, remember? Since the 90s you've been all "REEEEEEEEEEEE BIPARTISAN IS BAD WORD, CENSOR IT!!!" So yeah, maybe stop being part of the problem?
4. This gibberish means nothing since literally none of what you say actually happened. So this gets skipped until you can provide real evidence.
5. You're the only SJW I see, demanding we ignore the problems of your guys in favor of other people. Way to project.
6. You wanted tech Monopolies. If you didn't, you wouldn't have deregulated them.
7. And you demanded that Facebook bot be set free, remember? You reds didn't question his practices, only how to turn on your new-fangled doohickeys.
8. Oh no, youtube enforced the rules to get crackheads who excessively break Youtube's policy off. How.... absolutely boring. See point 1 again.
9. At your behest I might add. Sad how you Reds have become the Communists you once whined about. But hey, Communism turned out profitable for you Reaganites, right? The irony.
10. Bitch, I was ACTUAL banned from Twitter for being Liberal. Do not cry about that fake as hell shit to me. Shadowbanned isn't even a real thing, you probably just lost followers to someone more popular who isn't insulting them.
Okay, you done being triggered, or should I explain how you got every detail of the Joker Movie wrong and how it's actually anti-Trump, or as you would say "Leftist Jew Propaganda"?
But I don't understand why you're being so hostile towards me when I was not towards you. Sounds like you're the one projecting on me; the way you make assumptions about me without knowing me.
I am centrist bordering on liberal; never been conservative. I agree on some liberal points; not all. I agree on some conservative points; not all. I would appreciate not gaslighting me as an alt-right strawman who believes in B.S. Jewish propaganda conspiracies. I never once mentioned Jews. I have family who is Jewish.
I am going to respectfully reply to some of your points without patronizing you, or insulting you. That bothers me more than our difference in opinion. I hope you show the same courtesy.
1. I agree. Celebrities should not be above the law; criminals like Cosby and Weinstein should be held accountable. But that's not what I was talking about. I was talking about destroying people's careers and livelihoods over jokes from years ago. Not crimes. JOKES. I'm sure you wouldn't want your stupid jokes from a decade ago getting brought up everywhere you try to apply for work.
2. If by ilk you mean conservative, again, I'm not. Not all news is fake, but fake news does exist. Click bait titles, inaccurate information, opinions disguised as news journalism, bias from website and network owners based on their political positions. I am sorry, but that's real. There's even a browser extention called Newsguard which checks for which websites have the most fake news.
3. Never been conservative. Hated W. Bush. I was pro-Obama for his 8 years and always pro-LGBT+. Bi-Partisan is good; I agree.
4. I don't believe in some examples on this list, but there's enough evidence from multiple sourcers and linked articles to show a pattern.
https://www.oneangrygamer.net/get-w.....e-master-list/
"Get Woke, Go Broke" is not absolute for everything, but it is real.
5. I never said anything about ignoring when right wingers do bad. But most of the artists I've seen, they don't get harassed by conservatives. It's not conservatives who find fan service in art, anime and video games "problematic" and want it censored. It's not conservatives calling NSFW artists like me sexist mysoginists and spouting "WHERE ARE HER ORGANS?!?" SJW's and PC culture is this generation's puritans; even comedians like Chapelle and Gervais point this out in their comedy.
6-9. By your logic, all Democrats support slavery and the KKK, as they did back in the civil war. None of this has any bearing on the topic of tech monopolies, which we can both agree are bad. But you just want to keep insulting me and blame me for stuff I didn't do. I was born long after Reagan.
10. I know Twitter bans liberals too, and that's bad. I never said they only ban one side. They censor both sides and that's a bad thing. Censorship is a bad thing; we can agree on this.
If you look back, we actually see eye to eye on some topics, but it's the way you say it and how you constantly attack me that hurts your arguments. Your whole attitude has been very disappointing.
But it seems like your diplomatic approach and patience is wasted on Lizardguy. I usually am one for understanding and patience, but, man... Their comments are so ridiculous. Not so much the content, but the way of what they said. Again, they're either trolling or have some serious issues - a normal human being doesn't spew out so much chaotic hate towards a stranger, unprovoked.
I usually wouldn't even type the above out, since I see it as contributing to conflict and being insulting words - but I'll admit, reading their anger-filled drivel fucking tilted me lol
Also, again, are you alt-right? You keep bringing it up. Did you vote for Trump or something?
God? I've been an atheist/agnostic since I was, like, 8... Despite being from a country that had Christianity before the American continent was even settled.
cancel culture = "REEEEEEEEEEE Why have to obey law? REEEEEEEEEEE"
SJW = "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE MANNERS ARE JEWISH CONSPIRACY TO WEAKEN WHITE MAN REEEEEEEEEEEE"
Censorship = "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Why I no say Nigger? REEEEEEEEEE You no offend me religion, I can censor but you can't tell me to have manners REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE".
The fact that you parrot this Fox News Rhetoric shows you're very far right. Extremist Reich practically.
Surely you didn't think I was from Alabama - I told you, I'm from a country that existed long before the US has. =)
Honey, your one reason for enjoying anything you listed here is a fabrication that lets you say "REEEEEEE STICK IT TO THE LIBJEWS". To suddenly pretend you never once said that shows just how extremist you are. Like Sean Spicer on that dumb dance show, you only live to politicize everything and attack people who the party tells you to. For more in depth replies to your various idiocies, re-read my first reply.
I never once attacked liberals, jews, your character, or your beliefs. You keep projecting and gaslighting me as a an alt-right boogeyman. Most of what I listed on my journal is things the alt-right hates.
Nobody can have a sensible discussion with you without you turning into a brat. Everyone is free to have their opinion, but you really should reflect on your own behavior. You don't sound like a liberal or a leftist; you sound like an extreme leftist.
2. Honey, you used Alt-Right terminology to make alt-right complaints about things only the alt-right can even think to complain about. That's all you ever did. You are the Alt-right. Wait what, you think you're against the Right? Nixon called, he wants to remind you the Southern Strategy happened. This isn't gaslighting, this is truth. You shout Lugenpresse to avoid the truth.
3. Oh look, more Alt-Right triggered whining. WHy not try to attack my argument first? Oh right, you got nothing and can only resort to "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE". Like, you can't even say anything, it's all triggered screeching.
Also, I only just now noticed you attempted a "Demcrats are real racish" argument. Nice try, you lose, good day.
Your comments here are so aggressive, so filled with hate and vitriol, so random, so confusingly chaotic that one has to assume that you're either a troll, mentally deficient or had some extremely traumatic thing happen to you right before posting...
It's THAT "wtf".
The worst part? When I read Drawsputin's post, I was like "eeeeeeeh where is this leading?" at the first paragraph (but thought the rest was fine); as such, I was by nature ready to agree with you for challenging him - but you did it in such a ludicrously hateful and idiotic way that I swung right back to side with Drawsputin.
It's the news media that went "REEEEEEE PROBLEMATIC INCEL MASS SHOOTING CENSORSHIP". Did you miss the constant news articles attacking this movie for BS that wasn't even part of the story? It was everywhere.
I don't even watch Hallmark Channel dude; I hate Hallmark. I am legit confused where this is coming from!
1. Aside from the fact that Antifa is literally a figment of the Conservative Imagination (much like how Jewish People were blamed for imaginary crimes in Germany under Nazism), there's the fact that the Joker is chaos, the opposite of order, and much closer to your stereotype of Antifa (again, which is about as fictional as the Joker, if not more) than anything else. There is like no other possible way to interpret any version of any Joker, ESPECIALLY the movie version no matter what your triggered little ass whines Lugenpresse at.
2. Mainstream news is Conservative, trigger boy. Especially in the movie which says "Screw it, round em up and put them in jail" when it's beating into our heads in the most unsubtle manner possible "DON'T IGNORE THE PROBLEM YOU MONEY GRUBBING ASSHOLE BUSINESS BITCH." Like, how you could interpret that as the opposite of what it is doesn't make sense. You're basically trying to say that PETA is pro-Pokemon.
3. Your party got bitchy at the Hallmark channel for showing a commercial with a gay wedding. And now I can only imagine you specifically being the head of the charge. Congrats Wonderbread, you censored Hallmark, the Wonderbread of TV.
First, I appreciate the suggestions. That's what this is at the end of the day and Carnival Row sounds quite amusing.
Second, I too found your opening paragraph to be a bit "eye-roll inducing"; generally, when people complain about things like that I do see it as a red flag for "a certain type of person". It's the opposite end of things but the same feeling I get when I read what SJWs write, ironically.
The reason for that is that, however, is because I primarily think you Americans are SOOOO over the top in everything; you overexaggerate so much!
"cancel culture, fake news, political divisiveness, SJW authoritarianism, woke entertainment media, and tech monopolies turning society into a censorious, nightmare dystopia" - NONE of the rest of world cares about any of that. Not literally, but almost. When I say that we don't care about those things, I don't mean that we ignore them - I mean that they don't actually happen. It's just a non-factor, the usual "vocal minority no one cares about" type of thing.
As far as those things go, they have different levels of relevance.
"Cancel culture" is weird and definitely an example of the overexaggerated nonsense. It has affected some people negatively so it has some merit, but it's mostly w/e.
"Fake news" aka propaganda is a real threat, always has been in human history, but at the end of the day people are more equipped to fight it than ever - we just have to remember that there is no unbiased source.
"Political divisiveness" is rising globally due to unresolved issues manifesting, but it is indeed worst in the US. You fuckers hate each other, which to me is absurd, since the entire two-party system is obviously a HORRIBLY efficient "status quo" control method by the ruling classes. They use race, they use guns, they use religion, they use gender and - when in doubt - they use your two ("only") political parties to literally divide and conquer. The only conflict that there should be is rich vs poor, but the rich keep getting away from it by creating conflict between different demographics... Doesn't help that some politicians are seemingly legitimately total kooks (or playing ones) and that there are enough (vocal) idiots to support them, but I do believe the efficient majority of Americans could get together on common ideals. Fight the rich, improve living conditions, focus on fixing your country, disable the military-industrial complex - live happy and fulfilling lives.
"SJW authoritarianism" is on one hand fiction and on the other hand somewhat tangible. Like, again, no one gives a shit about someone spouting puritanical and fascist views - maybe some people on Twitter or w/e, but the effective majority doesn't, especially not of the global populaton. Furthermore, I strongly believe that there ARE imbalanced people, extremists, that use SJW as a catch-all term to complain about everything they disagree with... That's why I said it was a red flag, most people that complain abot SJWs are, I find, actual racists, misogynists, bigots of all kinds... That is, until I caught myself complaining about SJWs for taking things to absurd lengths and creating a different type of extremism. So, I'll say this: SJWs exist and they are just as an extreme demographic as the more typical bigots (one in the same, really) but their influence is overexxagerated and their presence misattributed to inappropriate groups and people. Not everyone that has an opinion you disagree with is a SJW and/or bigot; not everyone trying to be more inclusive and open-minded is SJW, not everyone trying to maintain traditional and logical values is a conservative bigot.
"Woke entertainment media" is something I can't comment on, since I feel like I barely watch or follow most recent media. I'd need to be listed examples of shows/movies BUT not be given the "problems" within them; then I'd watch them on my own, report my thoughts and see if I "saw the issues" or even found them to be issues in the first place.
In theory, it's quite simple: entertainment media being supportive and open towards (for example) women and gay people is fine; even offering products that cater to them is fine. The problem is if this is done in a forced, unwarranted and tone-deaf way; and if catering is done exclusively to one subset of demographics, not all of them (in which case you have the same issue as before).
On a personal note, I've always been someone to roll my eyes at or actively complain/harshly criticize what I see as unwarranted fanservice. I think (most) video game characters should be cool and appealing-looking, but I don't see the point of every (other) female being a total babe that gets in sexy situations; we have erotica and porn for that.
"Tech monopolies turning society into a censorious, nightmare dystopia" again sounds over-exaggerated. Yes Google and Facebook selling our private data is bad and being used as vehicles for someone's beliefs is bad, but... That's about it? What I am I missing? I generally don't buy into complaints about privacy breaches, while seeing complaints about censorship usually gives the same "red flag" as seeing complaints about SJWs.
"REEEEEEEEEEEE 2019 was a rough final year to an even rougher decade that saw a rise in cancel culture, fake news, political divisiveness, SJW authoritarianism, woke entertainment media, and tech monopolies turning society into a censorious, nightmare dystopia. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" Get it yet? Terms only used by Right Wingers and only when they want to disparage Jewish people without saying a Racial Slur.
Also as he elaborated, there *are* examples that back up his feelings. As I said, though, plenty is exaggrated and fabricated - but to say that there aren't bad things happening caused by all kinds of extremists.
EternalPioneer don't get sucked into his blackhole; it's a waste of time and energy.
Also you're more Right than I'll ever be. 😂
Though the intro has things I believe in, it's a little exaggerated for comedic effect too.
Guess I'm not that comedic though. XD
I was actually not born in the US, but I do agree Americans can overreact about everything; both conservatives and liberals. I used to be super liberal since High School, but overtime and having met and befriended some conservatives, I'm more centrist now, with liberal leanings. There are more important things in the world, but I am not as informed to talk about them. These topics are personally important to me, cause of my career goals and they affect what artists and writers are allowed to create. Just look what happened to Tumblr when they banned and censored NSFW art; loosing 20% of traffic is not a vocal minority.
I 100% agree with the two-party system is a terrible "status quo". There's no benefit to tribalism; that's why it's good to expose ourselves to both sides or we live in a bubble. This is why I became centrist.
We're all smart enough not to listen to the alt-right when they spout evangelical or racist nonsense.
They are fringe weirdos and irrelevant; companies do not listen to them. But in the last few years,
I've seen lots of companies and creatives bend the knee and cater to SJW social media mobs. And yes, not every anime or female character needs to be a hot babe getting into sexy situations, but there's a double standard. Puritans only praise women covered up, and they attack women showing skin or boobage; which is sexist. It's not right wingers attacking fan service, or erotica nowadays. They don't use words like "problematic" or "mysognistic".
I've seen too many of my favorite shows, movies, and games loose quality from going woke. Doctor Who for example; it always had diversity, strong female characters, and LGBT representation. I was even looking forward to the the first female Doctor. But the writing is agenda driven, preachy, and they care more about being diverse, than quality story and characters. It's no wonder the they're loosing millions in ratings. I've read interviews from Sony talking about how they intend to censor more and more Japanese and anime games for PS5. I've seen Nike, cancel a shoe because a vocal minority complained about the original Betsy Ross flag, the first US flag, being racist. I don't get triggered about it though, I just take my money and time elsewhere. Like all the examples from my list, where story and character comes first, they still have diversity, and there's not censorship.
Woke media is a personal gripe of mine. I don't expect everyone to follow up on this stuff
and know everything about it. Normal people have jobs and lives outside this; don't even worry about it. I certainly don't hold it against people if they enjoy things I do not.
I can provide a list though! Not every example works, IMO, but there's a pattern.

My feelings on tech monopolies is not over-exaggerated. I think it's creepy that Google has no issues censoring their search engine in places like China, where they oppress freedom of expression and have concentration camps for Muslims. These tech companies and studios claim they are so "progressive" and "virtuous", until it gets in the way of their China bucks. Look at how Blizzard banned players for supporting the Hong Kong protests. Shameful.
I appreciate having a friendly, rational discussion about this. I agree with most of your points, and I understand where you are coming from.
1. Even viewing people/one self as "conservative, liberal or centrist" is such a weird American thing to do. I'd advise against it; it's a shame it is so prevalent, it strongly reinforces the tribalism. You're doing it out of habit, from the sounds of it.
2. I definitely agree that there is *something* to it but, again, I think the SJW social media mobs' influence is not THAT great. If it increases, tho, I agree with it being a bad thing - again, just a form of extremism.
3. More typical conservatives not being against "sex sells" is a weird thing; I feel like it's more that they're busy with other things, as opposed to suddenly being more sex-positive.
4. Sony not allowing weirdly erotic/pornographic Japanese (anime) games is something I don't have a problem with. It's an all-ages multimedia machine and a specific brand, if they don't want it to be associated with sexual stuff - it's up to them. Better that than being two-faced, hypocritical "family values" Nintendo that silently profiteers from sex-sells stuff. With that said, I'm biased against (anime) Japan for being the most shameful propagator of utterly unnecessary sexual content ("fanservice").
5. I've been to that website before and, sorry, I strongly associated it with the bad type of person - bigot, misogyny and all. If they think "anything with a female" is "woke" then, oh boy... Speaking of the list, it has eggreggious entries... Shockingly bad ones, which confirm my accusations of misogyny since apparently just having a female lead in a movie is "woke". Annihilation was fucking fantastic and I'd argue that the gender of the actors literally didn't matter (for the most part); failure at the box office? Could be many things - but if it IS because of a lack of a typical male lead then, fuck it, society IS misogynistic and needs a bit of a slap. Of course, there are valid examples - Ghostbusters 2016 was horrid and definitely an example of agenda-driven media. But The Last Jedi? Shitty movie (that made BANK). Solo?!? Perfect storm of poor timing, arguably the best new SW movie, not "woke" at all. The Walking Dead (game series)...? Repeated the same damn thing again and again while not improving in any way... But, yes, the Clementine-led portion of the series is a great example of the good type of female representation, not a bullshit agenda driven by toxic feminism.
I'd stay far away from that website if I were you; being associated with it in any way, I'd argue, hurts your "centrist" cred.
6. Well tech monopolies are bad, just as any other monopoly.
The China situation, tho... Yeah, I forgot to mention that. It's, uh, horrid on all levels.
4. Regarding the weirdly erotic/pornographic Japanese (anime) games, I'll save my opinion on that for a future journal.
5. Yeah, like I said before, not every example works; it's subjective and VERY questionable on some. That's the first time I visit that website; I just needed to search and pull up a quick list that shows enough of a pattern. Last Jedi did make a billion, but Force Awakens did twice that; even when a movie makes buck studios don't like such a decline in interest or sales. That's why Rise of Skywalker retcons and pretty much ignores Last Jedi.
They're totally wrong about Annihilation. That was a sci-fi horror classic that I hope will grow in appreciation over time.
5. Well, true - but my point was that TLJ's relative failure doesn't have anything to do with "wokeness"; people didn't tune out because "women and black people", people tuned out because the movie was pretty damn bad. Furthermore, I think expecting TLJ to reach FA's status is silly - FA was the revival of the series, TLJ was never going to do as well. So: poor movie "failed" because of that, not "wokeness".
Oh, well, - I dunno. Maybe some of the content is legit, but I feel like most of the content on that website justifies typical SJW arguments... Again, I dislike extremism on either end of the spectrum.
And +1 on that. My buddy and I watched it because we heard it was a good and intriguing movie; "female-led cast" didn't matter neither before nor during watching, all that matters is that is a good movie without any underlying agenda.
