I am sorry to hear of the damage to the charging jack of your laptop and had wondered why it was I hadn't noticed you in LilJennie's story time.
I don't know of your personal situation and it isn't my business to but is it possible you could get a reconditioned Windows 10 model with perhaps a warranty for three or more months or a Chromebook which is fine for everyday things to tide you over?

Possibly, but I'm saving up for some other items and was able to obtain a new charger for less than $28 CAD so I went for that option instead - I'll definitely look into that when the time to replace this laptop finally does come.

Is it the jack itself that's damaged, or just its solder connections to the board? If it's just the connections, you might be able to get it soldered back in place. (And even if the jack itself is damaged, you may be able to replace it with a different one if you get the plug at the end of the cord replaced with one that matches the new jack.)

The whole thing just kind of broke off - none of my local stores had a suitable charger so I had to order online. I actually arrived in about 3-4 days, but getting to the post-office was a challenge - it was badly overpackaged and wouldn't fit in the mailbox.
