Air cleaner from the carb, that’ll be a bit easier, and if that is not within reach, I advice you to get a “fly eye” style air filter (https://www.racecareng.com/item/1598250-pro-flo-air-cleaner-5-18in-neck?category=101807&brand=10679). These are more or less thought for scooped intakes

Mhh i wanna put one of the hot rod style scoops that go through my hood, so spacing up far enough would be my only bet as the tranny likely couldn't take a blower.

This isn’t any kind of forced induction system, it’s merely an air filter that has an axial intake rather than radial like the regular circle filters!

Spacing the carb up from the intake manifold has the same effect as a longer runner intake though done far less effectively. This will change your torque curve. So the better option if you want to do a hood scoop is change the aircleaner and intake.

Now, you haven't mentioned the type of hood scoop you are going for, conformal or more 'hotroddish' thing is the 'hot rod' style scoops is more for when you have installed a roots style super charger which naturally spaces the carb upward requiring hood clearance. A hot rod style scoop without a blower won't do much for you.

Hey, it would be a hot rod style but purely for visuals, not really performance. Not like my crappy '78 automatic tranny would appreciate a blower. Just need to get high enough to get through the hood.

As others have said changing anything under the carburetor will change the behavior of the engine, it could also require a change in the tuning of the carb as well. They actually do make spacers to raise the stock air cleaner, but I don't know if you'll be able to put a scoop on top of it. I would think any air cleaner that fits the top of the carb would fit on it though, and most scoops are just fancy air cleaner housings.

Best bet is to look for Air Cleaner Spacer, and see if you can find one long enough. I've seen 3" ones, but not 4".

I mean, I can probably stack em or create one from aluminum pipe. The scoop I am looking at already has the filter and everything in there, would basically jsut bolt on top.

They might actually stack yeah, since most I've seen seem to have the lip on them to hold the air filter like the carb does. The only thing you might need extra is a much longer air cleaner through bolt.
