Hello everyone!
Let's talk shop a little!
Question: What is your favourite piece of equipment and why? In your possession, that is.
Doesn't matter if it's an instrument, your headphones, a mixer or a toaster. Well, maybe not that last one.
Unless you use it to make music, then it's alright.
Also: Yeah, I guess naming two things is fine, too. It can be hard to decide on just one sometimes, right?
I'll start: When I write music for myself, it is mainly guitar driven and I really like heavy riffs.
So at some point I thought, perhaps I should get myself one of those fancy 7-string guitars.
And now (a few weeks ago) I've finally done it and it is my new favourite thing in the world.
It's a Sterling JP70 (John Petrucci). And even if it's just a "cheap" replica of his original Music Man models, it's like a dream come true for me.
Because I'm a fanboy and always wanted to have one of his models. There you have it.
I've been rocking out on that thing ever since I got it and personally I find it is way more fun than a tuned down 6-string guitar.
Although it is really confusing at first. I have actually never played a 7-string model before and the first few days felt like I have never even touched a guitar in my life.
Besides that, I guess my computer is pretty important, too. I don't use an actual guitar amp at home, only Guitar Rig on PC.
It keeps the neighbours off my back, because I can keep things quiet!
So, do you have anything that you couldn't live or at least work without? Or any shiny new toys just like me right now?
Don't be shy, it's alright to show off a little.
Speaking of showing off, let me introduce you to some fresh music from some of our artists here on FA.
It is time for...

In terms of the guitar, I like it because the design makes all frets accessible and the action is low, so it allows you to play faster parts with ease and with a lighter more fine touch. Also sounds great. :) Seeing you like John Petrucci (he's my favorite guitar player), I could mention that I use that guitar to play Metropolis Pt. 1.
In terms of the amp, a lot of people have told me that the Line 6 Spider 3 was not a good amp, however, say mine sounds great. I always tell them it's because I created my sounds on it and didn't use any presets. I've tried other amps but I always go back to the Line 6 because I like the rhythm and lead distortion guitars I created.
The OB6 is excellent for making 80s pads and the only thing I know of that would be a step up is an actual OBX from 1979 or so.
Beside that, the tape decks. I could at a pinch use a DAW like everyone else and their dog, but that would be very boring and I'd have to change my username.
Hmmm... Provided that it all uses the same power cable, do the modular synthesizers I assembled count as one instrument? Though that's cheating because I basically built it to be my perfect instrument.
I'll go with the Lyra-8. It's strange, meditative, a truly unearthly thing. I find myself getting lost in its howling tones and textures when I go to record and never actually get anything down on tape!
