So I got owned by an SJW.
This journal is painful in pretty much every possible way for me to write, but I have to come out and say it. I got owned. The only way forward is to look at the mistakes made and try to learn from them. So what was learned? Well, several things were learned, though it's taken me quite a while to finally calm down enough to write them.
1:An SJW will fight dirty
There is no fair fight to an SJW. If you have a weakness they can exploit, you can bet they will capitalize on it, especially if it distracts away from the argument. Now, this is different from strawmanning, as this is basically "blah blah blah Oh, and you're fat too." To win an argument with an SJW, one must call out these personal attacks as the distractions they are, and not let them distract you.
2: An SJW will refuse to listen to reason.
Just because you have a list of facts in your hand doesn't mean they will even acknowledge it. I had plenty of articles on my side, but the SJW in question refused to even accept them. "Oh, that news website is unreliable, so it's fake." Something I've discovered is that there are NO un-biased news agencies. Brietbart leans to the right, as does Fox News. Almost everybody else leans strongly left. As for those that remain, they only lean slightly left. One has to read through the bias nowadays. SJWs won't do that.
3: Indirect sources will be ignored.
Say you link to a YouTube video. That video is someone with a screenshot of another article and a link to that article in the description. It's irrelevant. Why? Because now it's an opinion piece. Forget the article it linked to, forget the fact the vlogger has the article as the background to the video, it's instantly an opinion piece and will be ignored.
4: They will try to bait you.
I will admit, I lost my civility when trying to argue with the SJW. Almost said things that would have gotten me suspended, but thus far, I have him on block so I don't have to deal with him. Except...
5: They will harass you.
Again, I fell victim to baiting. They hassled me, I hassled them back, then started many other arguments on those pages where my intention had been to just comment and go. They continued commenting on me until I put them on Block and even then, managed to work around it by giving a Shout. Now, maybe I got a time stamp wrong, but I'm pretty sure I blocked them.
6: Popularity counts.
Say you're like me. I don't upload much, I only post journals that hopefully a few people read. I have a few friends and am well liked by those friends. It doesn't matter how right I am, if they have more influence and more followers than I do, then I'm in the wrong. This is why I prefer not to name names. I don't want to deal with them. I don't want to deal with people who follow this SJW.
Now these are a few things, but there's faults on my side. As I said, I got baited. However...
7: Make sure you can argue.
I can't argue. I just can't. I've tried and tried, but nothing works. Even throwing a stack of papers at them wouldn't work because they would ignore the mountain of proof and evidence I just buried them with. I need to put together everything into an undeniable salvo that if they publicly denied it, they'd look utterly stupid to even a four year old!
8: RESEARCH!
This is a hard one to do in the heat of the moment. I utterly failed. For example, the war on Christmas. It's well documented. The ACLU and the FFRF (freedom from religion foundation) frequently get their jollies off by cracking down on displayed crosses, nativity scenes, and even Merry Christmas. Seriously, when is the last time you saw Merry Christmas on a public bus, or on a government building. Nobody is wishing people convert to Catholicism, they are just saying Merry Christmas! However, the ACLU and FFRF target smaller towns because it's low hanging fruit. If a major corporation did it, they wouldn't do anything. Hobby Lobby, for example, is an arts and crafts store, far better than Michael's, but they have enough money to tell the FFRF to shove their lawsuits up their ass. However, local governments are usually strapped for cash and figure it's easier to bend their knee than fight for their morals. So that's why Happy Holidays is used instead. However, and most embarrassingly, this brings me onto the final point.
9: Pick your battles!
I should have realized this unnamed SJW was trying to troll me. I should have realized he was trying to troll people into responding. What's more, I should have realized that in the end, nobody really cares about Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays. It's a moot point. People have the corona virus, immigration worries, where their next paycheck is coming from, how much of it their overbloated government is going to take away, how the 2nd Amendment is being chipped away by the left, and whether their car or truck will make it to the next affordable servicing. I got so caught up in a rage that I forgot to step back and realize that the entire argument for or against Christmas being displayed, was silly.
In the end, I got played. I got played like a fucking violin. So to anybody who reads this, think carefully about arguing with an SJW. Unless they are physically in your face, it's just not worth the effort or risk of being trolled.
