It's disappointing that posts like this are even needed. General civility should be... well... general. Being polite costs nothing -_-

It's sadly a lesson that must be reiterated over and over. New people are coming to the fandom every day and the unfortunate thing is, not all of them come in with the idea that there are living, breathing people behind the fursonas and what they do can impact those people's lives. As you said, being polite costs nothing but being rude, insolent and abrasive for no other reason than a matter of differing opinion can cost someone very dearly.

You're certainly right, people don't seem to connect in their minds that there are real people on the other side of things. It's honestly... baffling, really, what people get rude over. Like holy hell people, it's a damned opinion, it's not exactly going to end the world if someone disagrees with you. It's honestly why I've largely disconnected from social media, people are so fucking toxic sometimes and it wears one down to a nub.

Can we just abolish cancel culture and take care of personal strifes in private rather than try and drive people to one side or another....

Wish we could but cancel culture is now part of society and we live in a society :P

Hey. Well the ending of issue five has kind of put me in a bad mood, an almost depressing mood, and plus the fact that there’s only one issue left. Tell me something to cheer me up. When I don’t think about it I’m less upset, but every time that happens, I get the feeling of heartbreak

I think it's also important for everyone to keep in mind that the work being done by artists on this platform are not all commissions and are very often pieces that inspire and resonate with them and result in something that they wish to share with the world. This work is taking their own time, their own sweat and they release it here free. It's the equivalent of JK Rowling releasing a Harry Potter book for free for everyone on this platform.

Yes, sometimes your favourite character goes through a hard time, or something tragic may happen - but this isn't for shock value; it's for the story and message the artist talks about. If you truly support the author, support their vision - don't just support the characters in their universe. Support the author who originally took the time to create such a well designed character that you even felt emotionally attached to the story - because that's what good writing is. Take a step back, take a breath and realise just how amazing it is that words in these stories made you feel something in the first place.
