No spirit, demonic or otherwise, wants your soul. What they want is your works. To better yourself and influence the energy of this world in their favor. Trusting them being the same as trusting people, its a risk. To be fair, spirits in general aren’t always trustworthy, so this is a healthy mindset to have when interacting with one for the first time. Not every spirit wants to be our friend, be they demon, angel or otherwise, but I have to add that without trust and making ourselves a little vulnerable we can’t have good relationships with anyone, human, spirit, ect.
There is a common myth that any successful magician must “sell their soul” and become a slave, or be damned to hell for all eternity, and similar superstitious and religiously-motivated garbage. Most Gods, Spirits, Entities, ect. are not interested in your soul but in your Ascension through the planes. Hell, some aren't even interested in humans at all. While others merely desire companionship. Just as humans are varied in our aspirations and desires, so are spirits, gods, and entities. Remember, in life and in death, nothing is strictly black and white.
Speaking of Black and White, let me tell you about The Arts and how they correlate with Gods, Spirits, and Entities.
A ranking of Black Arts means the spirit/entity/god/ect will typically choose evil, wrongdoing, or to act against others around them. They are typically of very dark/evil origin.
A ranking of Dark Arts means the spirit/entity/god/ect has the ability to choose right or wrong. They have the ability to choose to do wrong. This obviously is the same as human beings. Dark Arts entities who have the capability of choosing to do wrong but also have the capability of choosing to do good.
A ranking of Grey Arts means the spirit/entity/god/ect is capable of good and bad. They will likely choose good, but can experience ups and downs in mood & energy swings just like humans.
Grey Arts spirits/entities/gods/ect typically deal in or are made of darker energy, but that does not mean they are evil or malicious. They get along best with those who indulge their darker side, but these are not Black Arts. Much like Dark Arts, Grey Arts spirits/entities/gods/ect have the capability of choosing to do wrong but they never, or seldom, do. Often favoring good deeds, honesty and a good time. They can choose to annoy or play pranks, most are truly good the majority of the time
A ranking of Neutral Arts means the spirit/entity/god/ect is a neutral balance of White & Dark magics. This works best with people who have a level balance between White and Dark energies. They do what is best for themselves and their allies.
A ranking of White Arts means the spirit/entity/god/ect is lawfully good, positive, has an uplifting & kind energy associated with it. White Arts spirits/entities/gods/ect can only act in defense. They do not indulge in causing discord. They can provide protection, avenge wrongs, and fight back as they do so in order to provide positive support on the behalf of others.
Here is a little breakdown on spirits, gods, and entities-
An Entity is a living, breathing being. Though it may very well exist on a different plane or in a different reality than our own, it is alive. There are thousands of different entities, each diverse in its own way. They interact with each other. They have partners, they have babies, they grow old, and someday, they will all die. They live in communities. They often have “jobs” or positions within their community. They often have morals of conduct or codes that they live by. They are governed by their own laws. Time in their realms is often very different from our own physical realm. Often, days in our realm are merely minutes in theirs. Even though they reside part time in our realm, their aging still correlates to their own. They usually develop bonds with their own kind both in our realm and their own. More often than not, they develop friendships and can even have relationships with entities outside of their own breed. They do have the ability to develop deep, lasting and loyal bonds with humans. They have their own individual personality traits. They evolve and are able to advance both in knowledge and skill. How long they will live, depends on the breed. Some breeds have roughly the same life span as our own, while others will live hundreds of thousands of years.
A Spirit is a being that lived a life and died on the physical, spiritual, or astral realm. The spirit is the essence of the once, living being and retains their core "self". There are tens of thousands of different entities known to exist that pass into spirit form, and billions of spirits from the tens of thousands of races that exist on the physical, spiritual, and astral realms. Many spirits are open to sharing their existence with humans as a shared life exchanging the benefits each offers to the other. They can often interact and communicate with the living. They can offer certain forms of aid to the living, IF, in life, they had that particular skill AND if that skill remained after death. They often remember, in whole or in part, both their life and death. They cannot procreate. They do not age. They cannot change their personality. However, they may still have the ability to develop feelings, a connection, and emotions to the living.
A Demon is an infernal spirit which implies they work with energy on the low end of the spectrum of energy vibrations. Some of them were born as demons, some of them where created as them and others were once angels that fell. They aren’t all evil just as gods aren’t all good. Just as gods work to maintain order, demons create change. This does put them in opposition with the gods. Just because two sides fight does not mean one is good and one is evil. Demons fall under the rankings of Dark or Grey Arts, meaning they have the choice to choose between being good or bad, depending on personality, morals, situation and affiliation. Demons come in many sub-types and are just as diverse, if not more so, than humans.
Then we have Gods/Goddesses and Immortals.
A God/Goddess is a powerful being that can alter reality with their will/intention, they gain energy, power and influence via the energy and works of their followers and can even create new spirits. Gods/Goddess's have free will and if created by another god/goddess are free from the influence of their creators and sometimes are many times more powerful than them. They may do as they wish, and anything they want can happen as long as their believers think they can do it. Seriously. It's really that simple. They can give & do for you whatever is in their power to grant if they decide to. It's really important to note at this point, what they can do for you on earth is often way different than what they can do for you on the astral realm. This is why most people that encounter said Gods/Goddesses give up crazy details about the interactions they have with immortals on the astral realm.
An Immortal is a similarly powerful being that is incapable of dying through any means. Those familiar with immortals often remark about the immortals having what they call "Inappropriate" responses sometimes to situations, well that's because they aren't mortal. Their set of priorities and their appreciation for things is going to be askew from what we as humans view as appropriate. They aren't coming at the situation like you are through that mortal prism where everything is seen through time. They have all the time in the world. There's not a sense of urgency. That's something you have to get with in your mind when you're interacting with immortals. They're going to be different from you. They may empathize with you, they may back you up, but they aren't always going to be on the same emotional level you are. Immortals can interact & engage you on the astral realm on a more level playing field. That's why people talk about such beings able to polymorph, astral travel, feel & touch, etc on the astral realm. While Gods/Goddesses are the primary example of Immortals, but not all Immortals are Gods/Goddesses. Other such Immortals can be anything from Eldritch beings and many other deathless entities.
A Thoughtform is a artificial being created by focusing on a single thought and infusing that thought with intense emotions and energies, becoming a separate mental/energetic thing. Once created, thoughtforms exist in all planes of existence. A Thoughtform cannot harm its creator and typically only interacts with its creator unless instructed to do otherwise. Thoughtforms cannot create other beings or alter other objects.
A Servitor is as its name would imply a servant. Servitors form part of a thoughtform continuum: from sigils, to servitors, to egregores, to godforms. A servitor is a construct made of energy deemed to preform a task by its creator. It is able to do tasks that are "programmed" into it and it will perform those tasks as long as it has the energy to do so. Servitor creation is a tough skill to learn, and the major reason why is this: Servitors, not being alive, need a constant inflow of energy. They expend energy doing their tasks, and have no way to create it on their own. Thus, someone creating a servitor must teach it to gather energy on its own. For example, from sunlight or moonlight or other natural energies. Most practitioners who use servitors for one time tasks just charge the servitor up with enough energy to do what they need done and let it do that task until it runs out of energy and expires. Servitors can be weak or strong, that depends on the spirit that created them and the power that spirit gave to the servitor. Servitors depend on their creator in order to exist. The creator decides many things for them. Some practitioners create them as formless energy, while other prefer to give them a design to help with visualization Servitors typically cannot harm their creators but there have been cases of servitors going rogue. Servitors cannot autonomously create other beings or alter other objects unless specifically created to do so. Even then, such servitors tend to burn out quickly.
An Egregore (pronounced egg’ gree gore) is a group thought-form. It can be created either intentionally or unintentionally, and becomes an autonomous entity with the power to influence. A group with a common purpose like a family, a club, a political party, a church, or a country can create an egregore, for better or worse depending upon the type of thought that created it. Once some criteria are checked and a servitor gets powerful enough, they may become an egregore. They are many times more free to choose for themselves. They can become powerful without the need for their creator to care about them or anything. An Egregore will continue as long as thought energy feeds it but it does not have to be the same people feeding energy for the entity to continue and eventually become independent. Egregores can be kept alive when new generations add their thought energy to the entity. Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Holiday Spirit are all egregores, as is Jack Frost and the Grim Reaper. The Egregore connects the people who created it to the psychic energy which created it. It influences others as well. As a psychic entity, the egregore exists between the material and spiritual worlds and is connected to both. It is a creation of the psychic objectives of the members of a group. Anyone involved in a group, whatever kind of group it is, will be affected by the egregore of the group.
A group intentionally setting out to create an egregore must have certain ingredients.
Emotion– An egregore is born when a group of people concentrate with emotion on a single goal or objective. The emotional aspect is crucial; simply thinking about a goal does not have the same effect. The emotion and intent must be strong, focused and sustained.
Secrecy– Secret societies, mystery schools, and political associations all have core teachings that are not shared with outsiders. Whether it is a privilege to know the secret, or the threat that disclosure will result in mortal harm, nothing tightens a relationship like a kept secret.
Segregation– Sharing a secret makes the group separate, apart from the masses. Special costumes, ceremonies, chants all add to the separateness and a sense of specialness. The distinction of them-versus-us focuses attention.
Ritual– Special rituals invoke the entity of the egregore, but also stir the imagination of the participants. The power of the ritual, especially one conducted in secrecy, should not be underestimated. Rituals have been used throughout recorded history to invoke the unseen powers to operate on one's behalf.
All of these ingredients combine to create the egregore. The group feeds its creation with emotional energy, and the creature feeds the group with energy available to it from the astral plane. It is an energetic feedback loop. Eventually, the egregore is strong enough to be independent.
A Godform was once an egregore that has grown powerful enough that it transcends its original form and develop abilities akin to immortals and gods. Godforms are powerful beings that can even create new spirits. Godforms are 100% free from their original creators and most times greatly exceed their creators own power. They may do as they wish, and anything they want can happen. They can maintain loyalties or relationships with their original creator, or they can completely go off on their own and disregard previously built relationships.
And finally to explain the three main planes of existence, the Earthen, Spiritual and Astral planes.
The Earthen Plane is the realm our physical bodies reside within. There are literally hundreds of thousands of races of entities who have been born and become extinct on this realm. Thousands of mystical entities exist within this realm alone and are capable of peacefully coexisting with humans. This realm is a grounding area useful for humans to make a connection with Mother Nature and the Earth's core powers. It is a gateway to both the Spiritual and Astral realms and represents a median point for human existence. Its fragility is also its strengthen lending an ever changing atmosphere for the entities residing within it to grow and adapt. It possesses alone extraordinary powers giving those who seek them a vast influence and giving everyone on the planet a taste of its capabilities through its natural disasters. Just as the other realms this one holds an unimaginable trove of secrets from its ocean floor, under and above water caves, soil, sand, lava... and swirling through its atmosphere the spiritual stains left by billions of entities since the beginning of time. With each century bringing a more dense air clouded with the spiritual energy of those billions passed.
The Spiritual Plane serves as an originating point and a gateway to other realms. All entities who exist on Earth will pass through the Spiritual plane at death on their way to the afterlife. There are many entities who find life starts within the spiritual realm, most of the races are guardian races who serve both Astral entities and Earthen entities. The Spiritual realm is buzzing with energy and can be both a torrential source of power and a tender comfort. It is the gateway for humans to make connections with humans who have passed. Those who wish to exert medium powers will find the Spiritual plane is their platform for communication. It exists within and around humans allowing any who are open to making a connection a swift retrieval of spiritual energy. Humans are capable of existing within the Earthen and Spiritual planes simultaneously when in the proper state of mind. On a basic level humans who practice religion find themselves often within both planes such as in times of prayer, meditation, traditional ceremonies, etc. On a more intense level those who practice Spiritualism can walk both planes at the same time maximizing their powers of greater influence with entities and spirits in both realms.
The Astral Plane is The realm of the heavens. All Immortal entities, Godforms and Gods exist within this realm as well as Djinn and Angels among many other beings. It is a realm of tremendous mystery as it holds the most power and possibilities. The Astral plane is a beacon of pure light and a strong source of a compelling energies. The energies of the Astral realm are ethereal and can leave a lasting impression on a human when they first experience what the realm has to offer. Some have walked through one of the astral portals that exist on Earth's realm and have described it as being wrapped by a warm blanket, the pure feeling of happiness, and a tingling sensation at the base of the neck, spine or throat. Astral portals are a natural occurrence on Earth and though the chance a human will accidentally walk into one is one in a million those who are lucky enough never forget. The portals do not transport humans but it is rather a gathering of energy that comes and goes. Astral entities can walk all three realms at the same time at their discretion. They are gifted this ability and therefore can exact great influence over entities of all the realms. They are capable of providing life-altering magic to humans and spirits. The Astral realm is the pinnacle of mystic connection and power.
Now, to reiterate. None of these guys from any of these planes want your soul. It's pretty much useless to them.
