My thoughts on Coronavirus hype and other news

As most of you have undoubtedly noticed, the hype and hysteria around the Covid-19 epidemic has reached critical levels. For something that has caused far fewer deaths than the flu in this country, it sure has people panicking. Every store in my home town (and probably yours too) is completely sold out of paper products, bottled water, and many other things (I don't mind the water since we have a Brita pitcher and a refrigerator dispenser, both of which use filters). Besides, I've been drinking out of garden hoses since I was literally still in diapers (not even joking, there is actually a photo of me somewhere doing just that, and Mom will no doubt try to humiliate me with it someday), and I turned out fine, so there's really nothing beneficial about bottled water over tap water. Also, not only are the stores limiting their work hours in an attempt to stock up on supplies that are being hoarded by customers, but they are also limiting customers to buying no more than two of any given item. And it doesn't look like this situation will change for at least three weeks. I mean, it's absolute pandemonium out there--empty shelves, long lines, and longer waits. Why? After all, as long as you wash your hands thoroughly and drink plenty of (warm) fluids, you should be okay. This virus, even if it was as deadly as the media has people believing, is nothing to panic over. And yet, that's what the people seem to be doing, like the sheep they are. I don't know about the rest of you, but I for one am much more worried about the hype around Covid-19 than the virus itself, and for good reason. I fear that the hype will do far more damage than the virus could ever hope to accomplish. Someone is undoubtedly making a profit off of all this, and at our expense. Welcome to Plutocratic America!

Are absolutely goddamned right.
This entire thing is stupid and pointless. It angers me how out of control things have gotten just because of some virus.
Remember the swine flu? Ebola? I recall those having HIGHER mortality rates than this, and NOBODY panicked (at least, not to this degree).
This is dissapointing to me. Glad somebody else feels the same.
The most insidious part about the virus is that you can carry and spread the disease for a suspected 2 weeks or so before the onset of serious symptoms, such as fever, nausea, a persistent dry cough, and shortness of breath.
But on a purely biological level, the virus enters the cells in the tissues of your lungs. It causes your cells to create more of the virus (which are much smaller than the cells in your lung tissue). These viruses accumulate in the cell until it bursts, causing more viruses to spread out and infect more lung tissue cells. Repeat until your body catches on, turns up the heat, and neutralizes the virus. This can take a while because even those who have gotten SARS or MURS, closely related viruses to COVID-19, don't seem to have any increased immune response to COVID-19. Therefore it seems that no people are going to resist it better than others as far as we know.
I hope this clears it up for you - as far as I know this is what we currently know about how it functions, how it causes the symptoms we're seeing, and why it's spreading so quickly and easily.
some diaper brain was saying it Raises the dead like the T virus which I be a Smart DL was like thats must be a joke
so it sounds like the only way to beat it is to stay healthy, clean, talk with your doctors, take your Shots and Put a end to the Anti vaxxers cause they are going be this Virus target
right?
Also what could this virus do the diaper wearing induvial, babies, elderly and well us?
What doctors are doing now are drug trials to reduce the rate at which people suffer from complications like pneumonia, while others work on the vaccine. We've developed a vaccine for SARS and MERS, which were both also coronaviruses, so we know how to go about developing one. But the problem is that it's a long processes. If the in-animal trials going on right now go well, they estimate a delivery date of the vaccine to be around January 2021.
As for diaper-wearing individuals, this behavior should not contribute to the spread of the virus. It doesn't do much when coming into contact with parts of the body that don't have to do with the respiratory system. It's designed to go into lung tissues, as far as we know, which is why people say to avoid touching your face - the virus can end up getting breathed in more easily from there, should your hands have come into contact with an infected surface. That being said, I suppose if an individual has a habit of putting their hands in their mouth in some way, I recommend giving this up the best they can, or at least washing their hands before doing it.
what I ment by Cancer like is how Cancer will littarly take healthy cells and make them like it
same with the Virus
so if we stop the hording and the Anti vaxxers
could this help the Virus GTFO
(I may hate shots but once they make a vaccine for it, ya better Believe I'm taking it, I can't stand having a stomach bug, this right here is worst, hopefully Anti-vaxxers will Fucking learn and do what docs say)
The fact is we don't have accurate enough data to report a solid complication or death rate. Hell, it's highly debated on how infectious it really is. Most people agree that the flu has an R(0) (aka the growth rate of number of infections) of 1.5, meaning for every 2 cases of the flu, there are 3 more people infected. Some people place the R(0) of COVID-19 as low as 2, while others estimate as high as 5. But we do know some numbers on how long it remains in the air and on surfaces. In the air it can linger for and estimated 1-3 hours, depending on level of humidity and air quality, and on surfaces it has been known to last from 3 hours to 2 days depending on the humidity and temperature of the surface.
We also can't truly give a complication rate or death rate, because a lot of the ground zero areas have a higher population of elderly patients, and as we know, they are the highest risk group. In Washington, thought to be the ground zero of the infection of the United States, and the state with the most confirmed cases at time of writing, the outbreak started at a nursing home. So their complication rate is probably skewed to the higher end because of the type of people being infected. And the cases in China? Who knows what age the people are who die from it, or if their reports are even accurate. This virus has been a thing since late November of last year, and no one around the world heard about this thing until February of this year. China is not the country to listen to for accurate, unbiased reporting of COVID-19 data.
All in all, people are freaking out over nothing. I have a cough right now, and because I don't know if I have it or not (because the requirements to get tested are ridiculously specific) I wear a mask when entering public buildings, such as the grocery store, or a restaurant. If I do go to a restaurant, I order to go. And I do this because people who are susceptible need to live their lives too, and I want to do my best to let them do that. But what I refuse to do is hoard bleach, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, pasta, and canned food just because of some perceived scare of the economy shutting down... it's not the reduced output from China that's killing the supply chain - it's idiots and scalpers that buy all of this stuff in obscene quantities that are going to kill the supply chain. If everyone just continued their normal buying habits, maybe buying a few - a very small amount of extra supplies like canned soup and pasta, no one would notice a thing. But because of the hysteria, everything looks like it's the end of the world.
