Hello everyone!
It is that day of the year. When you can't believe anything anyone says anywhere.
Especially on the internet.
However, since 2020 seems to be a bad joke so far anyway, I suggest we skip the pranks this time.
...
Or do we?
...
Perhaps!
Alright, let's get serious for a second here.
I got myself a 7-strings guitar a while ago and decided to try my hand at a few songs from my favourite band: Dream Theater.
Now, the fun thing is that I have never actually learned any of their songs before, even though they have been my favourite band for...
I don't know, 15 years? Something like that.
One of the main reasons (besides the technical difficulties) has always been, that I was afraid it would maybe "destroy the magic", kind of.
Do you know that feeling, when there's music that you can listen to all day long, but once you've played it yourself, it suddenly doesn't sound the same anymore?
It's weird. Perhaps sometimes it really is best to not know exactly what is going on.
It has happened to me before, that's why I pretty much never learn any songs that I like.
Luckily this time it didn't happen; quite the opposite actually. I think, I can appreciate the music even more now.
So, speaking of appreciation: Let's check out some of the works from the FA community, shall we?
It's time for...

I actually bought the "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" guitar book when it came out back then, which is awesome, because you don't have to worry about having to find correct tabs or figuring everything out by ear yourself.
That's the only Dream Theater song I'm playing at the moment. Besides that, I also love to jam the "The Dark Eternal Night" riff. So evil! :D
I'd love to see your Metropolis cover sometime. That's basically the quintessential Dream Theater Song, lol! Maybe one day I'll give it a shot myself, but for now I think it scares me a little too much, hehe.
Well the best way to describe my experience learning Metropolis Pt. 1 is that it covers many different guitar techniques. The really fast solo played in unison with the keyboard covers your efficient fingering technique along with efficient alternate picking (also string jumping at that speed). There's a little section of sweep picking and I can't forget all the time signature changes lol.
