PSA: DO NOT USE BUYEE FOR PROXY BUYING
TL;DR: I wasted $80 on a service I thought would get me cheaper models, only to find out that shipping would cost nearly twice what I paid because I was being a dummy and did not check reviews.
For some people that might not know, one hobby that I have is making Gunpla models and doing a bit of painting on them (nothing too crazy so far). But I wanted to see if I could get them cheaper or at least get parts cheaper, so I ended up using two services: Zenmarket and Buyee. Zenmarket, at first, gave me a bad first impression on the service, but I read some fairly decent reviews on it saying that it was fairly good and am expected to get my first package from them in a week or two. However, I wanted to see if there was a better place to get my stuff from.
A YouTuber (not naming who) promoted Buyee and I gave it a go, bought a few gunpla models there via Japanese Amazon with their service and got some nice deals. However, they canceled all but two of the items I wanted to get (total about 23 dollars with the proxy fee included). Confused, I tried again with the same result. I asked about this and they said it had to do with a "one item per person/order" or something in those lines and went ahead with the two items I got. A few days later the cheapest item showed up in the warehouse and was notified of it and checked out the shipping fees. For that one single item, it would have cost me $20 to ship it. This should have been a red flag for me, but of course, I didn't think much of it and ended up going to another ship and buying two other things (total 21 dollars with a 3-5 proxy fee). Note to self: Don't ever do that again.
When the second item arrived that I got from Japanese amazon arrived, it consolidated them (which costs about 5 dollars.) thinking that shipping would be roughly the same, if not slightly more than just shipping the one item. I was dead wrong. For those two items, they wanted 40-60 dollars to ship it(bear in mind that those to items together were 25 dollars). At this point, I was annoyed at this point and against my common sense, once my other order came, I consolidated them with the first two items I got (another 5 dollars down the drain cus I make dumb decisions sometimes.) Today they got done with it and for 35 (est. without the proxy fee) dollars worth of merchandise, they wanted me to pay 60-90 dollars to ship it all.
Yeah fuck that, I am just getting rid of the package. Guess what? It cost me another 35 dollars. Why? Well, it turns out they excluded the shipping fees out of the purchase and waited until the very end to charge me all that shipping fees. In total, I threw away $80 dollars because I didn't look at the reviews of Buyee and decided to go with it and listen to a YouTuber to get my stuff from there. Not going there again and I do hope that Zenmarket does give me my first batch of stuff. Who knows? Maybe I am a dummy there too and I won't get them. Only time is gonna tell on that one. I will give an update and let you know if Zenmarket is good or not.
