So what'r ya gonna do?

Greetings fellow FA Artists, Writers, Designers, Crafters, Dreamers and other creative type people.
I'm just curious. The news feed has been repeating over and over that there's a possibility that the Quarantine period for the Corona Virus might be lifted at the end of April at the earliest, or perhaps at the end of May. I'm guessing the end of May or early June for the way things have been going out here in Pasadena, and in the heart of the city of Los Angeles though. Anyway, it was really kind of sad and spooky to drive by Chavez Ravine about five days ago and seeing Dodger Stadium's parking lot bereft of cars in early April, and even more troubling was NOT being able to hear the local games being broadcast on the local Sports Talk Station. Oh, My Brother and I have been getting our seasonal "Baseball fix" by watching that series of documentaries by Ken Burns, but after the "Ninth Inning" we might have to rely on those two "Extra Innings" out there to catch up on Baseball history past 1994. It's not quite like going to a REAL game, but what the heck. I still need to get up and move around and pop some popcorn to munch on during the second half of the video, very much like the "Seventh Inning Stretch".
But I digress. My brother and I as well as our Landlord Schirm have been cooped up in the house up here in the hills for well over five weeks now, and we're getting a little... Well, forgive the term, "Antsy". We are able to at least go out once a week for groceries, and every time we venture out into the "Social Tabula Rasa" that the local supermarkets have become during Quarantine, we both have to learn, and re-learn these new rules and regulations concerning preventing either catching or transmitting disease, and of course dealing with the new "Social Distancing" courtesies. In a way, I kind of appreciate being able to shop in the big stores without having to scrabble over the goods we need to add to the shopping trolley, but there are a few other shoppers who "just don't get it" and run through the store at a good clip unmasked, and seemingly believing that everything is just the same as it was not but three months ago. Of course this makes buying our weekly groceries something of an adventure, but I have a feeling that things have now changed somewhat permanently, very much in the way that our way of life changed after the Terrorist attacks of "9-11" did. Hopefully they'll be able to lift the wearing of masks in public rules soon, and I can go back to wearing a scarf or bandana around my snoot instead. Then I would not have to have that little check box for "Face Masks" affixed to my shopping list.
So, I wonder. Has anyone out there in FA land planned on what to do once the socializing restrictions are lifted? Are folks looking forward to attending sporting events, dining in "Sit down" restaurants, Cycling or running through their neighborhoods again, or perhaps shopping once more in those "Non essential" stores to pick up some arts and crafts items or just enjoy getting a good haircut? Will there still be some Furry Cons to go to during the Summer Con Season? On the plus side, I've been able to have a few of my Springtime Seasonal pleasures fulfilled recently. I at least was able to enjoy Trader Joe's "Grand Slam" caramel popcorn and nuts treat that is kind of like "Crackerjack" on steroids, and a recent visit to the local In-N-Out burger restaurant to indulge my taste buds with a 'Double Double" burger and a tray of "Well done" fries. These little treats help to remind me that things might be very different now, but sooner or later, things will return to "Normal" and hopefully soon, we'll be able to get our lives back on track again.
Even the Griffith Park Railroad has been dropping hints that once the Park opens up again they might be able to hire both my brother and I back on to help with the upcoming Summer season. If anything, I wish you all out there continued good health, and may that job you had before this all started still be waiting for you when you get back. I especially thank those of you out there who remained at your posts through the Duration, keeping things Running, Secured, Delivered and Up to Date through these difficult times. As always...
"Peace".

FA+

(It's mostly been just pony's, but there are a few other things in the mix)
I was more into "Battledroids" (AKA BattleTech.) and "Traveller" back then. (Boy... That dates me.)
2. Go on a really long walk. (When feasable to do so.)
And I look forward to taking those long walks again as well.
To Quote the final lines of the Raiders Of The Lost Ark, "We have top men working on it... top men."
While I shall return to a vague resemblance of life among the surface dwellers, I shall still keep my mole hole well stocked for the possible (eventual?) return to the dark days of yor. (theme song)

That song by "Megadeath" though. It's most likely one of the more "Motivational" pieces I've heard since discovering Nine Inch Nails' "The downward spiral". There was a song I had on cassette long long ago that was similar to that tune which was "Perfect" for getting my guard up and preparing my mind and body for a drive into central Los Angeles at night.
Hang in there Major.
What I'm *actually* going to do when my mojo comes back though, after watching the various health communities rally around, is take the book project I have in the works and make it a charity publication for mental health-related causes, since tangentially that's what it's about and where it evolved from in the first place.
Yes. keep with that book project as much as you can. It's not too uncommon in the way a "Literary" project can grow into something bigger than one expects in such a short time. I have many "Two Pager" comic stories that have grown into "Illustrated Novels" as the ideas grew out like layers of an onion, or rings of a tree.
When the restrictions are lifted nothing much will change for me.. But I will be just a little more cautious of people and probably maintain certain practices. And most likely observe thing for a month after before committing to the belief its safe..
At leas we can still export agricultural products and we can feed ourselves into the bargain.
And hopefully I will be able to resume my tram-driver training at the local tramway museum. https://www.wellingtontrams.org.nz/
But when this will happen in Aotearoa... who knows! The nominal end of our lockdown is 20 April, but there's yet to be a decision as to whether we stay at the current Level 4 for longer or we relax slightly to Level 3. As it is, as my wife has auto-immune deficiencies I'm gonna be working from home until the alert level drops to Level 1 - which admittedly does have the benefit of saving money on public transport costs. Gotta have some silver lining I guess.
I know what you mean regarding "Social Distancing Dodgems" at the supermarkets, especially when it's linked to the expansion pack "Soviet Shopping Simulator" where your previous scanning for brands of high-demand panic-shopped items like flour and so forth has been tossed aside in favour of getting anything of that particular item and being thankful you got in before those shelves were completely scoured. Thankfully that only applies to a few items, and booze in supermarkets is unaffected!
It WILL be nice to visit with friends again but on the whole, nothing for me has changed really (except still being amazed that TP is rarer than gold and 3x times more valuable EVEN NOW!).
Am VERY glad to hear you guys are doing ok. When the railroad starts up again let us know so I can hit you up for pictures! :D
At least I'm getting a lot of reading and a little writing done. I can do as I please at work, so I sit in my car and absorb 100-year old fiction.
I'm sitting in my car watching a large number of truck trailers. There's one way in and out -- and to steal a trailer, you'd have to bring a tractor -- and drive it right past the nose of my car The guard would have to be stone asleep for that! The 3rd shift guard sits and watches videos all night.
then I like being able to get two hours extra sleep, not that I ever leave my cubical besides to move my car anyways while at work.
Ill be happy when it's over though, due to being a gubberment essential employee who works in a disaster relief related field....I'm and my department is currently swamped with lots of procedural changes and very anxious customers.
I do miss going to UW surplus and RePC. Local thrift stores have been closing around here even before the Virus due to rising taxes and property values.
I think I'd like to meet some of the local greypelts though, when it's safe to go out again..
Hang in there, okay? Your animated Ava-Taur always makes me smile.
here in denmark we're also starting to open up again - but large events are still barred until the end of september
Just keep a level head and don't rush into anything.
Be careful out there.
We're still looking at mid 2021 at the earliest for a possible vaccine if researchers can even make one. Doctors and nurses are currently dying and they can't be quickly replaced. We as a planet had our chance to contain and eradicate this one and too many countries utterly failed. This is with us from now on, plus all its mutations. It's going to be especially bad with all the anti-vaxxers and dark money backed anti social distancers and "open the country to business now" (looking at you DeVos family) idiots and the "business is more important than living" people in charge. Some countries are going to do okay but their neighbors are not and we decided global economies were a good thing.
I'm expecting things to be a bit different at the parks when they first reopen. Less seating, lower max number of admissions and temperature checks at the security gates (and possible other venues on site). I bet they will be virtual queues/Fast Pass only for the most crowded rides (which might make waiting to get on Peter Pan bearable) and attractions where they can't do that at all will be closed at first. I also suspect that the sit down restaurants will be closed at first, or possible partly converted to quick take. I'm also sure we will see the character face masks they sell at Tokyo to show up at the US parks as well.
I would also guess that the major construction projects will be finished, but ones that are scheduled or haven't gotten very far will be delayed, and possibly even canceled in the long run. There will probably keep the slow renovation of Tomorrowland going on (plus anything left in all the small upgrades they started for Star Wars Land), but not change any of the rides for the time being. In the long run it will all depend on how fast the crowds return to the parks.
Hang in there Buddy.
Other than that, I look forward to finally getting a chance to relax. I was working on leaving my job in retail right before all this hit, literally had plans to drive down and drop off an application when they started shutting down counties out here, but I guess it was a blessing in disguise as I still have a paycheck coming in. But with it being 'essential retail', every day we're getting slammed, so our workload overnight is increased to prep for each day.
-Just hang in there.
as for the rest... one little furry con might have to be cancelled, the other is in october, and will probably be attendable. eurofurence would have been too expensive anyway, and there is nothing else planned but occasional furmeets and roundtables.
aside that I'd like to visit one or another zoo again, as well as classic car meets and fleamarkets and maybe go to role-playing cons again.
one good thing is that the roads aren't as clogged with cars anymore as of late. though I kind of wished it was not due to a bluddy dangerous virus...
And even if we were ready to start reopening some things, stuff like conventions aren't going to be a thing until we have a vaccine, which is a year off at minimum.
Get ready for this to last well into next year.
Fortunately, the grocery seems to be doing OK; I make a supply run once a week or so, with gloves and mask, and do the Corona Tango to stock up again. I'm not a particularly social animal anyway...
What I DO worry about is places like Florida, where they just reopened the beaches: just the thing for a second wave of infections. God help us if any of those idiots show up here this summer... 7X=G
