It sucks to do the MRI, holding still and I tend to tense up...

Pretty well. Back working (from home) at Dell. Slowly cleaning up after my (estranged, asshole) father's death. And I just picked up Animal Crossing, so my new life goal is to rub Tom Nook's belly. :)

Man, everyone's into Animal Crossing. I feel I'm missing something major. :)

Not necessarily major, but it's... I dunno. Relaxing. It's a silly game where you run around fishing and digging up fossils and catching bugs with a net, all so you can afford to decorate your house and the island you live on. And everything is super adorable and harmless (aside from hornets or tarantulas, which just make you faint and you wake up fine). It's a fun way to while away the time, especially when most stuff is closed. There's really no 'win' or 'lose' condition for the game.

I like that. I'm not a competitive gamer. I like open world games mainly to explore. I'll have to give it a try. :)

The sounds I heard in mine last year reminded me of the radar in 2001/2010.

I think I fell asleep during mine. The sounds were hypnotic.

MRI's tend to give folks headaches, especially when scans are done of the head. Noisy machines, earplugs and earmuffs are required to be worn. I had my head scanned when I was having migraines, only to find out my sinuses were giving me fits.

I can't have any more due to metallic stents in my heart. They might get pulled out by the magnetic field, something I really do not want to happen.

Yes... that would be... very bad.

Some people have an issue with the magnetic field screwing up the blood barrier and that causes headaches. Or at least that's what they told me last time. I honestly have no idea - just a headache. :)

You get headaches from them also?

If I even get within a hundred feet of an MRI machine, my head starts hurting, and I can close my eyes and tell exactly where it is. But as soon as I am inside, the headache goes away.

Hmmm... you SURE you don't have metal somewhere in you? Maybe your otoliths are slightly magnetic?

Dunno about my inner ear. The pain feels like it is coming from somewhere in back of and slightly above my eyes, like it is radiating out of my forebrain, and feels very similar to a migraine, just not where I get those.

And whatever it is feels directional - like I can zero in on where the MRI is located, by turning my head and moving forward and backward. Maybe some humans have little magnetite particles in their heads, like many other animals do, and we are the lucky sods.

Also, since my first MRI, I can no longer tell where the compass directions are. I had a manager a few years back who reported the same thing. He used to be able to tell where north was, even if you spun him around with his eyes closed, similar to me. But after getting an MRI, he said that never worked again. Same here.

With me, it didn't work like a compass. I just knew roughly what direction I was facing. Now I have to use landmarks or a compass or a phone.

Wow... I've never heard of MRIs doing that - but it makes a kind of sense... Whatever was causing your ability to sense north would be magnetic in some way and if it relied on a fixed magnetic orientation, the MRI will mess that up.'

Sorry hear of this... it sounds like a cool ability and it's unfortunate you lost it.

Eh. There's compasses, and I live in the suburbs. As superpowers go, I can survive without it. More of a parlor trick.
