Do you use twitter for art? (as artist or watcher)
I'm thinking about creating a twitter account for art, but I don't know if it's worth it. I heard that artists frequently are banned there for unexplained reasons. But at the same time I know quite a lot of artists who are very successful there... I dunnnnnoooo help me decide D:
Whenever an artist migrates to Twitter, I think to myself, "Well, I hate Twitter more than I like your art, so...bye, I guess."
The primary intent of Twitter is to be "The Moment". An unending deluge of Now Stuff, slowly pushing the recent past to the history of forgotten-unless-somebody's-trying-to-dig-up-dirt.
Twitter wants One Account Per Person, and if they think something else is going on, they're prone to just ban accounts.
You are Twitter's product, not their customer. You are only of value to them if you are consuming their ads or getting other people to consume their ads. They throw out product that is broken enough.
If you have two accounts, they may both get banned. If you have one, it's difficult to hide what you follow, see, and so on, and even if you do successfully do so, Twitter might change privacy settings at any time. So following a furry porn artist on Twitter irrevocably links You, as a person, with Furry Porn, and the potential for your workplace, family, neighbors, friends, and enemies to find out and leverage this information for better or for worse.
Finding any art that is not posted today and that you followed is an absolute pain.
Finding art when there was more than one or more than three in a post is a pain.
In summary, Twitter can DIAF and as a person who views and buys artwork, I will not use it as a way to do either.
Also I sooo agree about things being difficult to hide. I don't want people to be able to see everything I comment on twitter or even see accounts I follow. Not that I have something to hide, but I want at least a chance for privacy.
Mind you, I haven't poked the Twit place since they required one valid phone number per account.
