Can I rant? I'm gonna rant.
This has been, without a doubt, the hardest piece of TF writing I have ever done. If it could go wrong, it did. I've already talked about it over on my twitter, but let's recap, hm?
First off, this was one of those commissions that I just couldn't get a handle on until I was nearly finished it. Nobody's fault; it's just how things go sometimes. Because of that, I'll admit I was kinda dragging my feet for the first few days of writing. Then I got quite sick due to weaning off a medication, and I couldn't get anything done then.
And then the protests started in the US. I felt like my time was better spent on things that would help the issues going on down there. Granted, I didn't know what I could do, but I sure did try everything. Donations, reporting racists, reading articles, and a whole lot of 'doomscrolling'.
It affected me so badly that I was getting physical symptoms of high anxiety, so I had to stop for my own good. And after all this, the commission wasn't even half-written.
So I decided to just write as much as I could, and give my commissioner a deadline of June 21st, since another person had just asked for a commission. This is when my computer started crashing. I'd say I lost over 20 stages in total. It was one day until the deadline, and I wasn't even halfway through. So I did what I called a "9 To 9 Last Stand", where from 9PM to 9AM I would do nothing but write. Six hours and 41 stages later, I got it done!
This whole ordeal was bad enough that I contemplated stopping commissions altogether, and even now I'm on the fence about it. Let's hope the other comms are a bit less disastrous!
And now, the trivia:
- JK there is no trivia because I never want to think about this character ever again.
Question: What was the hardest thing you ever had to write?
*sigh of relief*,

I think the best thing we can do is try to work with the acceptance that a technical problem or a lack of energy/focus will hit eventually. Delays are inevitable, but that doesn't mean the project isn't worth doing.
