"Hi all! For the last half a year, I have been working with some other TLK-lovers to create a new, safe chat channel for lovers of TLK smut. We want to be THE place for lovers of the Lion King to come, hang out, and enjoy the newest works from our extraordinary creative community. We even have many of those creators in our chat already, so we often get glimpses of work in progress and other fun things like that!

So why did we create this? We know there are many chat systems out there, and a lot of people are tired of hopping between them. There's Discord, Telegram, Signal, Line, WhatsApp, Slack...
But most of them have a fatal flaw, in that they are owned and operated by a company. These companies have been known to shut down channels that violate their terms of service. For instance, Discord famously changed its policies specifically to ban cub porn. They are also usually centralized around a company. That means that if that company stops operating, so does the community. In many cases, it is also impossible to tell what level of security the company is operating under (such as Telegram).
To us, that was unacceptable. We wanted to build a strong, long-term community that can last. Most of us have been among the TLK community for 10 or 20 years, and have seen many chats come and go, disappearing and taking a lot of history, good memories, and sometimes even friends with them. Again, this is unacceptable.
Matrix is an open source protocol that allows chat systems to be shared across many machines. There's a LOT of very technical jargon that can be thrown around here. "Federation", "end-to-end encryption", "decentralization"... If you like talking about those things, that's awesome and we're happy to answer questions, but also you shouldn't have to care.
Here's what's important:
- We own a server, so no one but us can shut it down.
- Other people can also run a server that will mirror ours, so even if we did shut it down, the community would keep going.
- The system is outside of any jurisdiction except our own.
- Matrix is a protocol, not a program. That means that even if a client (the actual program running on your computer) stops being supported, another can be created, and multiple already exist.
We believe this is the best way to move towards a lasting community that will still be here for the next 10 or 20 years. It's not perfect, but we do believe it's the future and will only get better.
We have a lot of ideas in mind for this community, but this is the start. Please read the rules https://www.notion.so/padcrew/Matri.....2e8685b928e8b2 and come join us at PAD! "
