I was thinking, do you think one could make an a fantasy VN with serious and nsfw elements mixed in or should it be completely one or the other?

there's no reason it can't be both. personally I really like the kind where you can make choices to date certain characters AND it ends with a payoff of more than just text and a single image of the character smiling

I always assumed that in the dating kind the payoff was unlocking artwork in the gallery as well as the story.

I have found digital works best so far as I can chop and change with ease, don't have to keep reaching for a rubber if I want to change something.

I think it is entirely possible to make a story-focused VN with NSFW content, if said content is essential to the story. It's definitely possible to make a VN that is also just focused on one of the two to the exclusion of the other.

I'm my pondering NSFW stuff could creep into the story elements and I had been considering a kind of mechanic that can be triggered or take place. That's a bit vague but maybe when I have the idea fully worked out I'll post it here for opinions. >w<

That's a hard to strike balance (same with NSFW comics I guess!) — if there's too much story, people eager to see the naughty things will be disappointed; but if it's all naughtiness it might feel too bland and stupid XD I'm not sure what is the best balance really.

Yea, that's sort of the conclusion I have come too as well. I guess if it becomes a serious thing I have to start working on it will come down to execution.

No, nothing specific atm, just trying to gauge general interest. : )
I am currently experimenting in VN Maker to see what it can do and what I can get it to do with my flailing and then maybe take it further from there.

It’s hard to say; my problem is due to the setting and horror/murder mystery tone, it’s quite difficult to envisage nsfw elements that won’t come across as awkward, pandering and shoehorned in for broader furry appeal (let’s face it, nsfw is a big part of the fandom and that’s fine).

Wether it’s entirely geared for nsfw is a different question because an explicitly nsfw story is generally going to have people paying vague attention to the writing while skipping to get to the sex. I would suggest deciding what your preferred audience is, what expectations you want to set and from there, wether you want nsfw should be easier to decide.

NSFW elements would definitely be hard to combine in something Horror themed.

I thought of a question. In your investigations of Tyrannobuilder could you let me know if you find an easy way to make an inventory of sorts. So far that's my biggest road bump. I think I can make something but its more of an item tracker than an interactive inventory. : P

I typically don't like them because of how railroad-y they are. I prefer more flexibility in fiction that has interaction.

I suppose it comes down to how much interactivity the creator puts into it.

I have the program - it's just a little daunting to get started. And while it comes with pre-made assets, I'd like to make my own that fit my style. So, I've been keeping it in my hip pocket for the moment.

Yea I am loathed to use the stock assets as well, been messing with placeholder pics while I experiment. : P
