I wish I were joking; as someone who's found himself going "there's lots of blame to be shared about here" more than once over the past couple months I've been called a "-blank ist/ism/phobe!" more than once...

As far as police militarization specifically goes: yeah, that's been a problem in the US for a while now, particularly following the practice of selling leftovers from the war on terror to police forces in the form of military-grade weapons and equipment.

And in principle what it was supposed to be used for only makes up so little of the crimes people commit, that the police would likely lose it, which has it's fair share of pros and cons, but we were also that country that was struck by a very major terrorist attack in 2001. So the reactionary nature of policies and the like make sense, and it only recently that we are stepping from under that shadow.

But yeah, I like that he gave more a history of where and why we are where we are without resorting to broad sweeping generalizations about whether or not cops are good or bad people, but more that the actions committed by some are bad, without saying they are inherently bad people.

It is like attacking an idea versus attacking a person.

Its always about the need to react to something that happens, the desire to look like they are trying to prevent it from happening again. It's why we have a good number of over reaching rules.

I mean the TSA is a great example of this after 09/11, and the new rules were largely ineffective and slowed things down a lot and it was the older way of doing things that were still the most effective in preventing it, just being more vigilant is what has shown to work rather than enacting all this other tech and dress down.

I haven't watched this, but I figured I'd point out that there are some people who are so fucked up that they say all police should be killed. Its getting tiresome seeing this stuff all the time. I ended up blocking two long time friends for this.

Well this is more about how we kind of got here with how the police are currently structured. Knowing Better is a veteran of the US Military, and have I think a degree in Psychology and one in History......either way, this more a video about the historical events that made the police what they are and where things have gone wrong and some potential solutions and it has a lot of nuance.
