You certainly have the ability to do them but my best advice being i have done it (and stopped,started again. stopped again) is take your time, keep honing skills and when you feel your confident enough try it.

I tended to admittedly do some gift art for a few friends to see how i did working with what others wanted as in the commision market your so often given a lot of description on what is desired..that alone can be the biggest challenge as you have to work with your talents in new ways and with others ideas..its very rewardingand imo fun if not too intensive but can take some practice

I'm sure you could ask a little something if people are starting to ask you for specific drawings since you CAN draw! It does not have to be money. Personally, I got my concept art in exchange of a Transformers figurine! I do not draw at all myself and some other people might not too so it's always fun when you can have the chance to commission an artist for his/her art to get one of yours!
