20th Anniversary X-Men (2000)
I saw some twitter feeds talking about the X-Men 2000 and was surprised and happy that people still remembered it to this day. In the last months of 1999, trailers for the X-Men movie had arrived. Because of how popular the 90's X-Men cartoon was, this movie was made at the right time. Despite the lack of colors regarding the costumes of the X-Men and that Gambit and Beast (who did appear in X-Men 3 aka the last stand) were not in this movie, I was still excited to watch it. Why because even though that Bryan Singer wanted this movie to be taken seriously most of the time, it was still a comic book movie that looked faithful to the source material (even though everyone including the actors were told not to read the comics or watch the cartoon). I loved how the actors looked and acted exactly like the characters they were playing as. Patrick Stewart was so awesome as Charles Xavier that I can see him as Xavier and not as Picard. Ian McKellen did a great job playing a holocaust survivor that wants to create a world were mutants would rule over the humans. Everyone else was well casted, but as for Hugh Jackman playing as Logan / Wolverine, this may have been the best thing to ever happen to him. Let's be honest, did we know, let alone care who Hugh Jackman was? No, because until the X-Men movie, Hugh was pretty much just stage actor and had Russell Crowe not pass off the role to Hugh, he would not have gotten his big break. It's amazing how an unknown actor became a popular A-lister all because he was playing a comic book character. Because Hugh Jackman was so good as wolverine, he has portrayed him in about 9 movies from 2000 to 2017. It's a shame that we don't get to see Hugh wearing the classic "yellow spandex" costume from the comics. The movie was such a box office hit that it led to sequels, a new x-men cartoon and we got a Spider-man movie in 2002. I miss being legitimately excited for Comic book movies. Yes, if it wasn't for Blade, we would not get the X-Men movie in the first place. However, because Blade was rated R, kids like me at the time weren't able to watch it. It's been 20 years since this movie came out and I still love it. I even like the Last Stand. As far as I'm concerned, we would not have an Iron Man movie let alone a Marvel Cinematic Universe if not for the X-Men.
Overall, they were way better than most superhero movies that came before.
