to be honest with you Star. I don't know if its a good idea to have people pay afterwards. They could easily scam you. You should reconsider that last step. I know you want to make people happy with it, but i think that after people agreed to the sketch ,thats where the payment should be made. (or even before). I personally think that if someone comission an art he or she should have the money for that.

Its not a new thing Ive just started doing. Ive always worked like this. Ive been doing commissioned for like...8-9 years Ive been scammed like...twice so far I think. Weirdly if I get paid upfront it kills my creativity. Like theres suddenly all this extra pressure LOL. I do also take payments after the sketch stage as some folk want the money gone out of their account, but if theyre repeat customers its pretty much always at the end

Well if thats what your always did thats fine, but think if it. Now people actually can read your process and know "oh hey i can scam her". the problem i see here is that you wrote it down for people to read. If people don't know how artists work they might not try to scam because they don't know when the payment is done. But thats just my Opinion, its your T.o.S not mine. Just thought i should point that out, after all i don't want one of my favorite Artists to be scammed.

Ive updated it to reflect stuff slightly different if theyre a brand new commissioned they now pay after the initial sketch is done :)

thats a good way to do it. people who already got art from you won't scam you since they actually want to support you.

I don't do art, but I do work from other people in other fields at times - I always insist on being paid after the work is done, not before. I really hate having that feeling of already having taking the money hanging over me.

This is good to know. I always thought paying you upfront was a good thing a way of showing you I trusted you. But if it makes it harder for your creativity I will try to hold the money till the end, although I do fall into the boat of liking it out of my account so I can balance the account not have lots of outstanding IOUs

I can work both ways really. Like I honestly do prefer being paid afterwards or at the very very least after the main sketch is done because thats where the bulk of the artistic complicated bit comes from. Once the sketch is down a lot of the pressure is off and I can relax into the commission a bit, but knowing someone has paid already seems to make this weird pressure build up in me that then impacts how I create.

While this is a very reasonable ToS, I agree with Darmon where payment is concerned. If you charge at any stage other than before work commences, you put yourself at much greater risk of being scammed. Plus, now that you've got it on display, my first thought is that some unscrupulous person will see that and decide to try their luck. I've already seen someone I know get scammed this way, so I don't want this happening to you too.

truthfully unscrupulous people very rarely read an artists T.O.S in the first place :)

Number one is about someone giving me artistic freedom then changing their mind after seeing the sketch and basically telling me to draw something they've now thought of. Causing me to scrap the entirity of the artistic freedom commission.

Errors IVE made are actually covered further down in the reference section where I say If the fixes are my fault then obviously it will be at no extra charge to you.

You're making me think I should post something similar to this; it's nice to have it all laid out so clearly. I don't think a lot of people think through the time it takes to make significant alterations to a commission once it's already been worked on. All of it seems totally reasonable to me. Is it alright if I steal the basic layout/format to write something similar up?

Another thing you could add.

If the person doesn't want their sketch, you have the right to repurpose it for another reason, be it a YCH or modified for another commissioner.

A lot of my YCH are sketches that weren't used when doing commissions.
