Eh...2020... (Recording software?)
5 years ago
Was kinda tired of having a super-optimistic journal about this year on my profile, considering all the crap that's been happening.
Quite a few developments these past few months! x.x
As if COVID-19 itself wasn't bad enough, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after the quarantining started. You know, the absolute WORST time for it to happen. Because her immune system was compromised by chemotherapy, we had to be EXTRA careful. I basically haven't gone ANYWHERE the past few months aside from driving around the block ever now and then so my car doesn't die.
Everything is okay with her now, though! She has recently had the surgery to have the cancer removed, and as of today she is no longer compromised! I can slowly start to get normal again...I hope.
While the rest of the world has seemingly recovered, the U.S. has come down with a case of too many idiots on top of COVID-19. People just straight up ignoring rules and just doing whatever the hell they want while this pandemic is still ravaging the country.
PLEASE don't be a dick and get people killed just because you are tired of being in your house and/or you find a mask "uncomfortable". That's all I'll say on the matter.
It's sometimes hard to keep afloat emotionally during all this. I see news bringing up just one fucking bad thing after another, and sometimes it feels like we'll never end and I just hope more than anything that we can just get out of this year and everything will be better.
But I've been INCREDIBLY fortunate during all this, had plenty to keep myself entertained, and I have just too many little things that make me happy to stay depressed for long. All in all, I've been okay and there's no reason to worry about me. ...If you have been. Probably not.
ANYWAY, how about we talk about other stuff, yeah? Yeah.
Things have been...okay...at work.
I started working from home due to the pandemic, but since my company was trying to implement that anyway, they're just keeping us that way. And I have LOVED working from home! I upgraded my entertainment setup in my room where I have the workstation, so I now have an HD TV, Bluray player with USB, and an amazon Fire TV stick! I can watch nearly everything I want in there between calls now (I say nearly because HBO Max is STILL not on the stick for some reason), and I've been using it to catch up on some movies and TV shows!
To name a few, I finally finished The Lion Guard, and will likely have a review of that posted in the future. I've also watched the full first seasons of Beastars, The Boys, Upload, and gotten through a few more seasons of Bojack Horseman. A friend of mine also got me the first season of Titans for my birthday back in June, so I've been slowly working through that.
I haven't been reading quite as much, nor have I been as focused on the Redwall books of late. I've actually been reading some comic books! I read through Marvel's "Civil War", DC's "Blackest Night" arc which was AMAZING, and I'm now working on the DC storyline "Sins of Youth" which a friend recommended to me a while back. Very interesting stuff in there so far; I'm sure it would interest a lot of you too! ^^
Anyway, back to work things. ^^;
I was trained for a new skill level within the same project. It's nothing I ever wanted to do, and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. BUT it's slightly more money, I get to stay safely at home, and it's still fairly slow now that I'm back to the later shift. Annoying calls are a lot more frequent than before, but I'm getting a better grip on the material as I go on.
As I was reflecting on 2019 in my last journal, I was talking about some memorable video games and couldn't recall some.
I can't believe that I forgot to talk about Mortal Kombat 11, which I got on the Switch and has been an absolute blast! It has a very fun story, wonderful character customization, an AMAZINGLY-enormous Krypt, AND I've done so much better in online battles there than I ever thought I would in a Mortal Kombat game! I highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend picking it up if you haven't already!
My established New Years' resolutions are what I'd REALLY like to talk about in this journal, and I just kinda got carried away with the stuff above.
First off, finding a new place to live has OBVIOUSLY been put on hold while the pandemic has been going on. I've just been staying safe and saving up.
Second, the whole gaming thing has been completely reversed. I've forfeited cutting back on game purchases, as I need all the games for entertainment during this period of isolation. I also haven't been working on speed-running AT ALL, as I've been distracted by all the awesome new games! Mortal Kombat 11 has rekindled my interest with a new expansion, I'm back into World of Final Fantasy, this year's DOOM Eternal has an amazing campaign and addicting multiplayer, I found a fun indie game called Superliminal that blew my mind, and I'm playing the beta for a new shooter by Hi-Rez called Rogue Company that is VERY promising on the Switch!
As for music stuff, that resolution is going REALLY well! Aside from work, gaming, and movies/shows, I've been spending my time in isolation throwing my money at some repairs/enhancements for my musical equipment. I've upgraded my drum kit with a sample pad and amp to make some more electronic sounds feasible, and I've also fixed up a little keyboard I had lying around to stack up on top of my main one. I've been working on music for both drums and piano, and you've gotten some teasers of some eventual covers with the mic tests I posted the other day!
I wanted to ask around, though, because while I am confident with PLAYING music, when it comes to recording and mastering/producing to get things to sound good...I'm a total noob. ^^;
I just downloaded the tried-and-true Audacity program to record those mic tests and get them posted, but I wonder if anyone would recommend something better. I'd prefer something not TOO complicated and hopefully easy-to-use, and I've already gotten a recommendation or two from friends. I'm just hoping for a few more to compare, as I'm kind of new to this side of things and I want to put out some good-quality stuff.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
