Regarding Our "F2U Bases"
General
Update: We've removed F2U from the tags and the submission title, but it will remain in the past and future watermarks for clarity's sake. We aren't trying to fool anyone, rather trying to be as clear as possible about what they actually are. We've seen artists who have Patreon Exclusive bases in the past where only patrons can purchase them, and that's not the case here. We don't want anyone feeling like they're going to pledge only to find out that they only get access to purchase bases for an additional price per base. The absolute truest intent on our part was to provide them 100% free of charge to those who simply wish to support us at a $5+ level on Patreon. Its not a means of selling them, because we had that Patreon tier with patrons in it long before we started providing the bases. So, as mentioned, we're opting to drop the F2U tag and titles but choosing to keep the F2U on the watermark, just to make sure everyone understands. We're hoping this will help alleviate any confusion moving forward.
We've received questions a couple of times in relation to the use of "F2U" or "Free-to-Use" when discussing our bases, as they're Patreon-exclusive content. We just want to take a moment to clarify and explain why we feel F2U is still a proper description.
1. The bases are not for sale anywhere and do not have a corresponding cost assigned to them.
2. Bases are not removed at the end of a pledge month, so all new patrons gain access to all past bases as well as their current pledge month's bases.
3. The minimum pledge required to receive access to the base files is $5, which comes with the following perks:
Receive early access to:
- New products
- Monthly pinups
- Comic updates
Access to:
- One Monthly Patreon-exclusive request stream
- Promotional discounts
- Weekly Patreon-only Toony AF Icon slots, in additon to the public slots (when available - currently on hiatus)
- Two Monthly Patreon-exclusive commission streams
- Discord server "VIP Lounge"
- Ordering Gacha Adopts for regular queue completion
- Early access to new YCHs (3 days before they go public)
PLUS
- Monthly F2U Patreon-exclusive linearts and/or bases for personal use or profit
All tiers above $5 receive the above listed perks and benefits as well as other additional ones, including monthly art rewards starting at $20 per month.
At this moment, we have 16 bases posted with 2 more coming out before the end of August. Once the other 2 are posted, that will put us at a current library of 18 bases that become downloadable for use with a single $5 pledge. No one is required to stop using the bases if they un-pledge, and as long as no one is selling our bases, giving them away for free, removing our signature, or neglecting to credit us, they are free to use for both personal use and profit. Line editing is allowed and even welcomed. They can be used to make refs, adopts, commissions, etc.
There isn't a single base on our Patreon that wouldn't sell for at least $5 each on a site like Gumroad, and our newest base would easily sell for $70+, given that it boasts 550+ layers/options. Once the 17th and 18th bases are posted later this month, even if you considered the $5 pledge to be a payment for them, that would be just under $0.28 per base, and the "cost" will drop with each new base posted each month (at a rate of 2-3 per month).
But we don't even intend for a $5 pledge to be made for the "purchase" of our bases. In fact, if someone doesn't wish to support us with a $5 pledge for the other advertised perks, then we don't necessarily encourage them to pledge at all. The bases are a way for us to thank those who wish to show us financial support at a level of $5 or more, at least once.
Given this information, it would feel very misleading for us to call them P2U, when we genuinely feel that our $5+ Patreon tiers are well worth the pledge even without the bases, and this is supported by the fact that many people pledged to those tiers prior to us adding bases as a perk in February this year.
So, there you have it! That's why we don't feel it's fair to call our bases P2U and genuinely feel that they are F2U bases. They are a perk of pledging, not a purchase. To say they're P2U bases would be indicating that we believe they should be able to be purchased for less than $0.30 per base, and that's not the case at all. We've poured ~100 hours into them so far, especially given the size of the most recent one, and we would sell them for much more than $5 if we intended for them to be sold. We mean for them to be entirely free to those who choose to support us on Patreon, and part of the perk is that the public can't go buy them at will (or at all).
Given this information, we ask that everyone respect our right to label our bases as we see fit and understand why we choose to label them the way we do.
We're hoping this helps clear up any confusion about the F2U label, and we thank you in advance for your understanding!

But at the end of the day, they are still locked behind a pay wall, and not truly "free" to use. And based on the fact you felt the need to make this journal explaining the rationality it... sounds like enough of the public has voiced agreement with this notion.
And they're called "F2U Patreon-Exclusive Bases" which is immediately explanatory of that stipulation. No asterisk needed.
