New Shiny Touch project : Pokémon Water starters
5 years ago
Shiny Touch will present new motives inspired by Water type Pokémon starters for their Rain Collection (Including raincoats, rain hats and rain boots). They will be wear by theyselfes as a presentation.
Sébastien Fuan, the co-designer of the label, will propose some motives by publishing them on this website.
Also, if you want to see a Pokémon wearing the motive from another one shown, or propose anothers colors for their rain gears, you can propose it by the commentary (It could be a plain one or with patterns).
Séb will try to answer and if you have some question, we will answer and update the post.
Thank you for your suggestions.
Shiny Touch Team (Well, just me)
The project will begin later, when Séb is ready to.
PS : I will draw them in order, from the first generation to the last one.

Oh, in the second half of the journal it sound more like as if you are planning to put the Pokémon themselves just into a rain coat with a design of sorts. Maybe you could clarify the wearer and what determines the design, Seb?
Perhaps aside from the ref sheets of the various characters involved with that "fashon label" / company / (store???), perhaps you could tell a bit about how the idea of "Shiny Touch" popped into your head and what it basically is? =3
About the wearers, they will be the Pokémons and the design will be inspired by themselfes. But I can keep the design for another Pokémon (?) wearer
Next, about Shiny Touch ... Well, I should have begin with that. I have already drawn the president (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/37437725/) but that's all... It may be a better idea to introduce the fashon label first with links to characters who work in, you're right.
And... That's embarrassing... I haven't made a reference for the coats theyselfes. I don't know what I should do at first, I am a bit disorganized. I drawing a model character who will wear the clothes as a reference (With a character sheet). I don't have any better idea.
I mean, if you have such a coat what would be the difference between wearing that and simply one of those transculent rain coats?
Yeah, I've seen that one. Maybe we should clarify. The world of your characters is based on a whole planet or is it just a region?
To name examples, in the "Pokémon" game series most games just cover a singular region, like for example "Hoenn" which consists of what in most pklaces in the world would just be like a county with several cities/towns and local economy, traffic system, etc.. In the Hoenn region it's specifically that place inside the Pokémon world where you have locations where you find it to be humid and rainy quite often.
That example of course compares to various places in our real world based of their hemisphere on the globe, all factors that let us for example know about the current season.
So yeah, itn would be interesting if the places in your fiction work like the real world as with weather being influenced by the planet circling a sun, tides being affected by the garvitational forces of a moon, etc..
Does that ultimately then mean that all plays out on the continent where Maag lives at? Do all characters of yours live at the same continent? And is there any sort of an inspiration by a real world location that you came up with that place, or did you just want it to be rainy simply because you find rain gear fancy and wanted to work it in somehow?
No wonder. It's difficult. Why do you think clothing design is its own career path? People spend years at times studying the basics and integredy of creating fashion. But hey, you can always do with how such people usually start out. Look up lots of catalogues, Google images and perhaps just throw together ideas of what colors do compliment each other and work up something from there. Even if you do simple designs, such can be already neat if they look like that the character can easily put them on.
Speaking of which, that's probably also a detail why clothing on Animal and Monster characters can be an even bigger challenge. You need to consider if a certain body shape would go well with your clothing design. Doesn't help if they just get tangled up in their outfits, right? ;3
I working on the universe of my characters. I haven't think of the origins and the situation. I just know the world is named "Aurora", it have been composed of two principal continents,
"Lunar" (Because of the Lunaires' technology, the climat have gone wrong and an endless drought have begin. Later, this continent have been destroyed and the Lunaire have moved away to the East continent)
"Solaris" (The continent at East of Lunar with a rainy climat, they have one or two month of hot season, otherwise, it's raining. The natives, the Solaires, have made a basic rain protection unknown by the Lunaire. The Lunaires arrived at the begining of the hot season, and they haven't expected the rainy climat)
The names have been chosen by the Sang-Noble (felins) of Lunar : The sun came from the East continent, so they called it Solaris. And for Lunar, the moon was always in the sky.
Maag is a Solaire adopted by a rich Lunaire family, so he don't know the Solaire's culture. At the begining, he just wanted to make shiny clothes, but after seeing the Lunaires' trying to avoid the rain and the Solaires with their rain protections, he wanted to adapt those to the Lunaire's style because nobody have thought about it before.
I will work on the different species, the design of the rain gear and the universe, thank you for your advices
And if the Lunaire people would become Solaire people over the years by living there, wouldn't the generations over time get used to rainy weather being a usual condition?
What I find a bit confusing about the idea is that for it always to be rainy, the air circulation around the globe would have to go like in a really specific circular motion and the air pressure and temperature differences would have to be very specific as well. Monsoon rain is something that you usually find in the equatorial hemispheres. India is probably the wettest place on earth but there they also often have to suffer from rivers getting overfilled with water and certain places getting flooded.
Wouldn't it be problematic if Solaris would have a 10-month-long rain season always?
Fun side fact about India: Since the locals are so used to it always raining, many don't even wear rain coats and just let their regular clothes dry when they get home. Might have to do with the usually warm temperatures. =3
Lunar citizens still needed water, The main city of Utopia have many machine who extract the underground water or filter the sea water. Others instalation use water to bring enough humidity from amphibian citizens. But because of the rarification of water, the price have rised up. The drought have lasted for almost two generation before Lunar citizens leaved
When I said it's always raining, it was a bit excessive. It's raining a lot, and the natives live in forest, far away from rivers (exepted for the amphibians). Also, a year in Aurora is not twelve month, but nine. About the floods problem, that's a good point, it could be a problem for the Lunaires facilities, I will not change it and I will keep the rain problems but I will take into account on an unadapted society.
That fact was very interesting, I imagine how inconvenient this could be. I don't know if they have or can habituate to this way of life, but wearing wet clothes is not very confortable
Like Maag and his family could just live in a place where it rains often akin to how people in our world think often of the weather in the UK. Seriously, a bunch of people always connect English weather with rain and the denizens walking around with an umbrella pretty often. Just take the merchendise from the London Pokémon Center as what people declare as typical English with Pikachu as the model:

Ah, it's surely a given that they aren't wearing wet clothes all day. And as you said, even if it rains a lot doesn't mean that there are clouds at the sky all the time.
Well, I don't know how my univers have begin with. It was a pretty dark world because of personal problems.
After that, I wanted to do something ever less dark, with atypical characters who searching they indentity in a kind of contemporary world (I've discovered Mother 3, I love this game so much) with many kind of societies problems.
I've keep some parts I like from previous stories. Like the two principal continent with one of them destroyed because of a weapon as a dark past, the light and darkness vocabulary (The day and the night for this one).
And for the rainy aspect... As I remember, I've always loved rain, so for me, the sun is more dangerous than the rain in my univers (I hate sunny weather, that make me sneeze). I've already made artificial climat disruptions in past stories.
But like a cat, I don't very like to been wet, so I've change my avatar from a frog to a cat who want to become a frog. And the amphibians in Aurora have Japanese like culture (Like in Starbound), and I have the feeling to belong to this one.
Personnaly I don't like clichés, so I twist them. At the origine, I've named the cat species Sang-Noble because I see them as felin. First, due to the nobility aspect of their past, even if they lost this aspect... maybe... Well, they just have the language in common, nothing more.
Are some of your Animal character designs based of video game characters? For some reason I feel like I saw a Feline character that looked somewhat like your Seb Fuan.
Do all Sang-Noble look similar in Fur color, head shape, etc or are ther different sub-races of their kind?
I just have a question about this journal, I've drawn this (I am surprised, I was sure it was posted on FurAffinity too.)

I have used Charmander's paterns for their clothes. Now I'm not sure about the idea, I thinking of make Pokémons wearing paterns from another one of them, but can I still have your opinion about it?
You can basically treat your raingear ideas just like ones from existing pieces. You see kids wear with ones based on various Animal chracters and if for perhaps somebody wants to dress up like Seb Fuan in his dreams in a Frog style one then they are fine to do so.
It's moreso about what idea brings you a lot of fun in the moment. Sometimes you may want to work with the colors of a character or one of their relatives and other times you just like to mess around with a bunch of different tones that you find would look cute on them. Themes are of course always a way to find a motif for what your creations may look like. From partner looks to themes of things related to the one who wears the clothing to just having another hobby or activity in mind, you always got plenty of possibilities.
If anything, I encourage you to consider a lot of the things that you think the chaacter might have fun with and what you'd think would make for a fun time for yourself to work with. Go over the top as much as you wish to and make the best of that. ^_^
