i prefer that degree of separation

x reader fanfics really take me out of it cause it constantly tells me im feeling and experiencing things that are empirically not true. It really prevents me from sinking into the story

That's what bothers me about it too! Don't tell me what I think or feel... But I mean, I'm happy to try to tell someone else >_>;;

Second person is just weird to me unless it's in an adventure game where you are telling others the results of their actions. A lot of people don't like first person either, but I use first person when writing when I want the main character to sound like he's telling a personal story.

Another problem I have with second person is that I consider my characters to be separate entities that are unrelated to me in RL. The idea of reading a story that tells "me" that "I" am swishing my tail or whatever is feels weird.

Yeah, the part about your characters being separate entities is what I was thinking of when I said degree of separation... like, some people *play* their fursonas, and then others *are* their fursonas, you know?
