Hello everyone!
Question: How do go about learning new material?
Are you more of an "intuitive learner" who learns best by simply listening to the music and / or watching someone play?
Do you look for sheet music or write things out yourself? And if so, do you even learn the music by heart?
I can read sheet music fairly well and write out material regularly, but it isn't really my strong side.
I'm definitely a whole lot better when it comes to "simply" learning everything by heart.
Actually I'm quite good at that, if I may say so myself.
I can read through a complex piece only once and remember 99% of it.
I think I learned how to that years ago when my reading was rather weak, and especially piano / keyboard parts took me literally forever to piece together.
Turning your weakness into a strength. Kind of.
It's amazing what the human brain can do.
I'm also curious: Is it easier for you to remember your own compositions or someone else's?

i used to only learn by memorising dots on paper, but that's not very intuitive or musical at all, and it meant that i was learning the sight of the music as opposed to the sound. now learning stuff is almost exclusively by ear, listening to as many different recordings of a piece as i can
