Hello and welcome to the Unicorn's Bookshelf.
Hello, world!
This is going to be a bit long, so I apologize now.
For some time now, I have found myself caught between so many things that I'm successfully making regular progress on...none of them. I have games to play, RP stories to work on, movies to watch, and then there's my own writing projects and art practices that I want to do, but never seem to make time for. Part of the problem, I'm sure, is a certain lack of discipline on my part. I work a full time job and I'm part of...at the moment it's 3 tabletop RPG groups. I have become very protective of my free time. Perhaps too much so. When I have time to myself, I either spend it with friends, either online or in person (within limits given the current COVID situation), or play a game (recently I've been revisiting the Halo universe), or watch a show I've been meaning to get to. Around all of this, I must include a few chores, some of which I'm well behind on because I have problems there, too. I do believe I have overwhelmed myself.
I do, though, want to get back into writing. I want to get back into art. Often when I make the attempt, though, I find myself staring at the screen, either unsure which personal project I should work on, or trying to figure out the next sentence to write, drawing a blank, and lacking enough will power to push myself through it and get started. Ironically, I can think of lots of things while I'm at work, but as soon as I get home, the distractions kick in.
My theory, then, is that if I can narrow down and prioritize my projects, and then convince myself to dedicate just fifteen minutes a day minimum to working on them, I'll finally be able to get somewhere. Which would be good since I really want to become more active here. You have all been so patient with me, those of you still watching, and I deeply appreciate it. I know I've made promises before, and I'm sorry I have failed you.
This is where you come in. I'm going to list several possible projects that I want to work on. I would like your opinions! What would you like to see happen first? What worlds interest you? What adventures do you want to read? Please ready through my list here and tell me what you'd like to see next. That will hopefully give me a little focus toward working on said project and maybe getting something done. then we'll move onto the next one and so on. I can't promise everyone will get everything they want, but with you as my guides, perhaps we'll all get to see a little something extra soon.
Possible Projects:
Short story: Dr. Alcott has seen something he can't truly understand, but he knows he must keep it secret. One of his patients was seemingly abducted by...a shape shifting robot? How is that possible? This would be a journal entry follow up to my short piece in
Lurdanjo 's MERVAS universe. I'm not sure exactly where the story will go yet, but I did love working with these characters, so fun things very well may happen.
Longer story: Eltan is the last of his kind. He's watched his world fall and mourned the death of his race. Now he waits for his own demise and dreams of a universe where he could have somehow saved therm all. If only he'd had the power to change things. Then he discovers a crashed ship. A strange, crashed ship. He can sense memory within it. Memory from outside the space-time continuum. When he enters, he discovers a strange man in need of help. This man's past is under attack. An offer is made. If Eltan can save the traveler's past, he'll be granted the ability to save other worlds from the fate of his own. This would be the beginning of a series of adventures that would be part my own work and part fan fiction using elements and events from many different shows, stories, and games.
Longer story: Anderoth is the runt of his clan. While he wishes to be a warrior, the other refuse to train him. He's too small, they say. They would have to look after him and risk their own lives doing so. It's just not worth it. Unable to let his dreams die, though, the young cat-like Felrin keeps seeking a mentor. Then his village is attacked by creatures from another world. When their chosen guardian falls, Anderoth grabs the amulet that protects his people, feeling a great need to keep it out of enemy hands, and flees. His adventure will lead him toward his future mentor, the unlocking of great powers, and the exploration of worlds he'd never dreamed of. This would be a longer piece broken up into chapters and may eventually become one of my published books, if I ever get my series off the ground.
Short Story: Ricky is a young male wanting to explore the possibilities in life, but if often too timid to do anything too adventurous. His curiosity takes him to the local club to watch the dancers in an attempt to explore his desires a bit more. When one of the other patrons starts pushing him to do more than He's ready to, it's one of those dancers that steps in. This piece would just be a short story featuring a few new characters plus the briefly introduced Kaiden seen in one of my own past drawings! I know you don't know Kaiden, but he's awesome. Please note, while the story does take place at a strip club, I do not intend to do anything too explicit, but I will be having some fun with it.
Short Story: I had a "vision" a while back. A short story idea that outlines some of my own inner struggles with the conflicts between my desires and my faith. This piece would be a personal representation of that conflict, which does continue to this day, but I'm willing to write it out and share it with you.
As an alternative, I do have an art course I bought online and need to continue. If you would rather see art from me rather than stories, let me know and I shall put greater focus into continuing that course. If you look in my gallery, you'll see the beginnings of my work there. Not very impressive yet, but by the time I'm done, I'm hoping to have gained enough skill and confidence to begin bringing my characters to life through drawing. It will take a bit of time, but you'll come along with me on the way, and eventually we'll all see more of my furs, dragons, and other things fill the pages of my sketchbook.
So let me know what you think! I look forward to seeing what you would like to see from me. And once that's been narrowed down, maybe we'll all get a little extra fun as I finally start getting myself to work. Little at a time, one step forward and then another. Eventually, hopefully, all of these things would happen and more!
